Someone just called me to tell me they punched each other? True? Here I thought we already bottomed out on both sides of town.
It is. I think the wheels have officially come off.

It is most definitely true. They got into a big arguement in the dugout and the coaches and other players had to pull them apart. It'll be all over ESPN and Comcast tonight.
Following that, Barrett went back into the Clubhouse with Lou and Rothschild. On the TBS broadcast, they showed DLee coming out of the dugout motioning to his face as if to say one of them was bleeding... my guess is that they started fighting again.. My money is on Z.

TBS just announced that Z has left the building.
Good, hopefully we trade both of these asses.
Well, I was locked out for a few minutes. Here's the description from Rahula Strohl (Chicago Tribunes "From the Cubicle)

Rahula Strohl Wrote:FISTFIGHT IN THE DUGOUT BETWEEN Z AND BARRETT!!!!! Sorry, got a little excited about that. They were getting into it about getting crossed up (Z points to his head, Barrett points to the scoreboard, Z shoves him and hands swing). Wow. Great stuff. Chip reports that Z is headed to the clubhouse as Jacque draws a four-pitch walk. Apparently, they showed it on Comcast, so that's something. I wonder if Len said anything. DeRosa gets a hold of one just foul, then flies to right. Daryle Ward officially ends Z's day and flies to left. My boss just walked by and said, "You know who it is, it's Barrett. Has been for three years now." Seriously, who points to the scoreboard? Soriano sends one to the gap in right, but Francoeur makes a diving catch.

Whoa, whoa whoa... I thought you guys (cubs fans) love Z and Barrett? I'm reading Bleed Cubbie Blue right now and EVERYONE wants to get rid of "that punk" Barrett... Seriously, I thought you guys liked him.

Anyway, I'll take him.. he can back up Yadi for the lone fact that he never has to face a Cardinals pitcher again.
Bob Brenly: "Carlos with no strikeouts today.... boy you really have to go back a ways to when Zambrano didn't punch a guy out.... (long pause).... at the plate."

Len: "thank you for that"

I have NEVER liked Barrett. He's an AWFUL defensive catcher. Catcher's are supposed to be good on defense. Any offense is a bonus. Barrett's defense is the worst in the league and now he's not hitting. He's one of the worst players in baseball if he can't hit.
Wow, celebrated for a cheap shot and turned on when he gets into a fight with his own. This is the same guy Cub fans were arguing was one of the top 2 or 3 catchers in the NL the past couple years.

By the way, here's a pic from the tribune

well, he was a top catcher in the NL a few years ago. Things do change over years.

I'm pissed that I didn't get to see it. But from what I heard it was definitley initiated by Z, which is really no suprise at all.
If this does not get Jim Hendry off his fat ass to do his job and compile a better ball club, then what will?

Zambrano started the altercation, so I don't understand what all the complaining about Barrett. The only thing he's ever done was punch AJ, and that was just funny.

Don't put all Cubs fans into one category. He's had good offensive numbers, but once again, catcher's are supposed to be good defensively. He's an awful game-caller, can't block pitches, and makes horrible baserunning mistakes. He did all of this the last few years back when he could hit too.

I don't like the guy at all. He's a bush league player.

I wish everyone took that advice.

Barrett doesn't call the Cubs games, nor does Blanco when he is catching. Pitching Coach Larry Rothschild does.

That's not true at all. The pitching coach calls some pitches, but the catcher calls most of them.

I'm not saying I don't believe you but... are you sure? At the major league level, pitchers or catchers almost always call the game. Yeah, every manager from time to time will call a pitch in a key situation or something or against a batter that the pitcher may not have received a scouting report on but I have a hard time believing Rothschild calls every pitch.
