KSR - May 30, 2007 - Random thoughts…not by Jack Handy

First off, on a completely random note, this kid Xavier Gibson must be playing some outstanding ball lately, because his name is all over the place out there. Kansas is getting REALLY involved with this kid recently and apparently Kentucky has been there all a long. Appears to me that this kid is a "true" southerner and wants to stick to the south, as his list of top schools reflects. The only thing that confuses me is that I thought he was out with a bone chip, but I'm assuming that that is done healing by now (as I believe that was back in December when it happened).

Quote:Xavier Gibson played his first basketball since November when he suffered 3 broken bones in his right hand. He was rusty and a little winded at times, but still, you could smell the talent from the 6′10″ Garnett style player (style, not talent). Gibson is a top 15 player and will be back in top form in no time. His team, the Georgia Blazers, won the 17 year old tournament title at the Memorial Day Classic in Nashville this past weekend.

But, the main point of my post is this:

You would think someone who is as ingrained into the world the of college basketball recruiting as Marc Maggard is, that you would be able to spell a recruit's name. As Maggard points out, there's not really a scenario out there where Kentucky could end up pulling out LiggIns, and I think the fact that Maggard can't even spell his name is proof of why he can't imagine Kentucky pulling him out. I think I can spell it out... I--G--N--O--R--A--N--C--E ... or is E--G--N...oh, nevermind.

I hate to say this, because I think that Maggard is probably very well respected, but I think that he showed some very obvious ignorance that most, if not all, Kenucky fans share with his blurb about LiggIns.

Quote:I can't imagine a scenario in which UK gets Deandre Liggens to play for the Wildcats. Liggens has been involved with Kansas for a LONG time and has a great relationship with them. Additionally, those close to Liggens are very close to Coach Calipari and a few other coaches on Liggens' list. Many see Liggens as the "flavor of the day" and he seems to be getting lots of credit for recent good play, but I do not think he is a "must have" player for UK. I would take him in a second, but I wouldn't lose sleep if we missed on him, which I am pretty sure we will.

This is what I took from his last two sentences. "IF WE CAN'T GET HIM, IT MUST BE BECAUSE HE IS NOT 'GOOD ENOUGH' TO PLAY FOR US. IN LIGGENS CASE, IT'S BECAUSE HE'S NOT REALLY THE REAL DEAL, JUST PLAYING GOOD AS OF LATE BUT THAT WILL WEAR OFF."

Thanks Maggard. Now go stick your head back up Belly Gellespee's a$$.
