I posted a few links to our site on other sites.

I am sorry if I offended anyone here in doing so.

I was just trying to spread the word in a non-spam manner. I have recently had to expand my definition of the word spam to include posting on message boards.

Anyhow.. sorry again. I will be much less involved in promoting the site from this point on. It just doesnt seem worth the aggrevation. If people come to post on our site, they come. If not, fine also.

ummm....but no one said that "normal" recruiting and promoting was a problem. I would hate to think that people are going to stop promoting over this or become frustrated (that would be defeating the purpose of this, right???)-- and for us "posters" --we need to know the rules/ways that we can recruit fairly and legally...right???

Yeah, we (the admins) are discussing this and coming up with a policy that we are all comfortable with and will be publishing this shortly. This was just a stop-gap measure until we can get time to present our policy to everyone.

Let me add my two cents. I think Alex has been ganged up on in this issue. He is definitely in the minority on the opinion, but he never was intending to piss off other people. He is not a veteran of message boards. This is the first board he's ever been a part of. In his defense, we allow other people to post links on our board, and he didn't think that it was a big deal to go do the same thing on other boards. If you go around from forum to forum on here, you may find double digit links to other sites. I personally don't mind. I don't think any of the admins really mind it too much. Then yesterday, 2 people came over to our board who were really pissed off. One of the guys went so far as to post Alex's home address on the board. And....to Alex's dismay, most of the people on this site sided with the other guy. I think he feels a bit abandoned by everyone else here. I have talked to him and told him that there is a gentleman's agreement that you don't really do the link thing on personally owned boards. ESPN, AOL, Yahoo...etc....who cares. They are big companies and its not sweat really. I am with the majority when it comes to personally owned boards. They are people like us who are working hard. I can understand why they'd be pissed.

This board is about 3 months old now and we're all learning. We've figured out better ways to keep the board from crashing, we've figured out how to deal with BOTD's, we're now figuring out how to deal with linking to our site, etc.... I'm writing this in the hopes that everyone here can try to be more understanding when there are flare ups. We are growing as a board both in sheer numbers and also as a community. We're developing rules and policies as we go.

It is really hard to see so many of our members, mods and admins bash our own board. It is personally very difficult for me to see it. It saddens me deeply. I'm working so hard to keep everyone together and happy. I'm hoping that we can all work together as we figure things out and we can remain as positive as possible. We will not always agree on all the issues, but hopefully we can at least keep a level head.

Anyway.....I'm not sure how this will be received. I'm just getting very depressed lately and wanted to air it all out. As I said to PoohTerp earlier today.....I'll be mailing you all checks for being my personal psychiatrists!

I may have been oblivious to it but I didn't realize there was such dissension within the ranks. I'll do my best in the future to recruit the old-fashioned way.
