Golden state and Memphis played tonite, Golden state won. Dunleavy and Shane-o are struggling (too bad, shane seems like a cool cat)

Yeah, but then you have Jason Williams. He of the 377 fg% and 333% 3 pt efficiency! 04-bow
Not to mention that he's shooting a wicked 45.5% from the free throw stripe. See what a college education gets you... 03-wink
the title of this post sounds like an espn news special with Barbara Walters

And outplaying Jason Kidd, one of the top 5 players in the league.

Yeah, 4th fastest triple double ever... scrub! 03-razz
Oh and .333 from the arc is very good.

It's equivalent to .50 from inside the arc.

Say one takes 6 shots from 3 pt. and 6 shots from 2 pt.

He hits 50% of the 2 pt ones at 3/6.

He hits 33% of the 3 pt ones at 2/6.

3 X 2 = 6 points

2 X 3 = 6 points

33% is not "very good"

That won't even get you in the top 50 in the NBA.

That's because the NBA is full of 3 pt shooting specialists like Steve Kerr etc....

For a PG, 33% is very good.
33% would probably put you in the bottom half of starting PG.

or not...

1) Baron Davis
2) Jason Kidd
3) Andre Miller
4) Eric Snow
5) Chris Whitney
6) Travis Best
7) Jason Williams (whitey)
8) Darrell Armstrong
9) Larry Hughes
9.5) Gilbert Arenas (exactly 33.3)
10.5) Derek Fisher
11.5) Bimbo Coles/Ricky Davis (they both play PG, take your pick, both under 30%)
12.5) Stephon Marbury
13.5) Damon Stoudamire
14.5) Sam Cassell
15.5) Bobby Jackson
16) Gary Payton (exactly 33.3)
17) Jay Williams

That's including probably 6 out of the best 7 PGs right now in Kidd, Miller, Davis, Payton, Cassell and Marbury.

Oh, and Chucky Atkins (30%) doesn't start, but he plays 10 more minutes per game than Billups, but I guess technically that doesn't count.
17th out of 29 teams is the "bottom half"

Slice it anyway you want. Jay Williams is middle of the pack at best as far as 3pt shooting for PG. That is not "very good."

No, that wasn't in order.

Those were the 17 of the 29 PGs that shoot under 33.3%.

And, if you look at all the great PGs... Kidd, Andre Miller, Baron Davis, Gary Payton, Damon Stoudamire, Stephon Marbury and Sam Cassell all shoot under 33.3%.
OK. So 33% puts you about 13th or so. Whatever. My point is that 33% is not "very good."

It still is.

It's not great, but it's still very good.

If you look at the starting PGs in the NBA, the ones that shoot better than 33.3% are the ones who have taken like 5 threes and hit 2 of them.

Most of the ones mentioned above have taken close to 30 threes, to give you a better field of data.

That's partially why it's not good to compare stats this early.

By the end of the year, most PGs will be sittin pretty if they're 33.3 from the arc.
