Per Fox 5 in Atlanta...

He has tendinitis in his right shoulder (no link yet). He's being placed on the 15-day DL as a precaution and should be back in plenty of time for the playoffs. I sure hope so. The Braves won't get out of the first round with the murderer's row of King, Gryboski, and Cunnane.
I think Merker will help, but that's yet to be seen.
Merck got the save tonight in our 4-1 win over the Mets. His first since 1992.

I hate to see Smoltz go on the DL, because he won't be able to set the saves record now.

Also, Maddux got his 13th win tonight. With two more he will break Cy Young's record of 15 straight 15 win seasons.
JJ, what does that do to Smoltzie's save terror he was on. I know he was racking up saves left and right earlier, haven't heard much lately on that. Where's he at in that category?

He's got 44, but he's not had many chances lately.

Thanks, GDawgs. Correct me if I'm wrong, but 44 still isn't too shabby is it? What is the record? And he can still come back and get a few more.

I'll take this one. :D He was just 11 away from the NL record that he set last year. The ML record is 58 by Bobby Thigpen set in '89 or so.
Ya, sorry for taking 10MAN's question from you JJ. 03-wink

Minor correction: The record is actually 57. 58 is close enough though. :D
