Got a quick question for you. You mentioned in another thread that it is going to be hard for mid-majors with smaller stadiums to get a team like Arkansas to come in because of the seating capacity.

Just curious, how many fans would travel for a game at Toledo? We have had crowds over 36K even though our stadium is much smaller than that. I know that might not be very large compared to SEC stadiums, but I don't know how many Arkansas fans would come up for the game anyway. My guess is 10K. If that happens we could always pack in around 40K in our stadium.
Depends on how many tickets you guys are willing to sell us.... in some cases (SMU and Memphis) our fans actually outnumbered theirs, even though we were the road team.

If you gave us 10,000 tickets...we'd prolly take the whole fleet. Alabama gave us 8,500 seats for their game (SEC rules state home team has to give 10% of their tickets to visiting team). They were sold out in no time....and fans were buying up Bama's tickets. I expect around 12k to go to Tuscaloosa. South Carolina is actually further away from here than Toledo is... and we've sent 10k+ there as well.

Toledo's gotta get expanded to where they can seat 42k to really get a chance at getting us to go over there. Otherwise, you'd just have to play us twice in Fayetteville... or play your home game at a bigger stadium... like move the game to Cleveland or Cincy. SMU hosted us at the Cotton Bowl, never their home stadium, due to attendance. It helped them too; they would have 51,000 fans in Dallas...35,000 though would be cheering for the Hogs.

Also, if your school wants to schedule us, better make it fast. Arkansas already has the following in place

@ Texas 03, Texas 04
@ Southern Cal 05, Southern Cal 06
@ Michigan 07, Michigan 08
Texas A&M 08, @ Texas A&M 09
@ TCU 08, TCU 09

Other talks include having a long term (10 yr home and home) with Oklahoma State, and 10 yrs of Tulsa coming to Fayetteville, as was the case during the 60s and 70s.

Arkansas up north doesn't make sense, except as a novelty. You guys have so much history w/ the SWC, that it's obvious you can fill in the OOC games w/ those teams and everyone is happy.

You defended Ol Miss's OOC games as teams of local interest, and maybe that's so. (the complaint is that they actually criticized SOS. And they wonder why they get no respect?)

It's for entertainment, and it seems Ark has their slots filled. Why force an issue by coming up north (too often)?

But, here's the rub: the bowls were meant for this purpose, bringing on teams to form interesting matchups for that year That's why bowls who ignore good teams are killing themselves. Ratings are down, and attendances are not that great.

You can't look at a team's stadium size and judge it's travelling fanbase nor its TV ratings.

Yes, it is a business, and the bowls are not operating with good business sense.

That's not a very full future schedule, just a couple more games scheduled than Toledo has. Granted 2008 looks pretty full, but 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2009 only have one game scheduled. You will need at least 2 more games for each of those seasons. If you get OSU and Tulsa that still means at least 1 more game for each season.

Although I don't think Toledo will schedule anything with Arkansas. For some reason we have never played a school from the SEC!
I actually wouldn't mind seeing Toledo at a stadium near me. NIU and BG might get me in attendance. Marshall can stay the hell away for all I care. That has less to do with fear than it does with loathing.
The fear of losing? Awww...you'll eventually get over it witty.
I see you attended the Marshall School of Reading Comprehension, HF. Good to see you again, regardless.
Noticed that did you? Sorry, I couldn't resist. 03-razz
