There's a reason why you'll find a picture of K if you look up "class" in the dictionary. 03-wink

Quote:Krzyzewski became angry in the waning moments of his club's lopsided win when fans began to chant: ``Fire Mike Jarvis.''

The Duke coach yelled at the Cameron Crazies to stop embarrassing one of his closest friends in the coaching profession whose team is struggling in the early going.

``I told my kids after the game there was a time when that chant was for him,'' Jarvis said, referring to Krzyzewski's first three seasons with Duke in the early 1980s.

``Unfortunately, in too many places we've lost sight of things,'' Jarvis added. ``We've got schools in Division IV that are yelling the same chant. It's a disgrace to the game and Mike Krzyzewski knows that more than anybody.''

Krzyzewski said he was proud the students stopped the chant when he asked.

``In sport, people look at coaches and players not as human beings, and they yell at them and call them names,'' Krzyzewski said. ``They are all human beings and that guy coaching that other team is a real good human being. I mean a really good human being and a damn good coach.

``Whether someone else says that or not, I don't want my (fans) saying that.''

Seriously, I'll give K some props for stepping up like that. It's not his fault the Crazies are a bunch of pr*cks.

Since when did one cheer make a fan base more disrespectful than people who chuck glass bottles, battery filled newspaper balls, and other odds and ends at players and their parents? Someone needs to check who their measuring stick is.

My thoughts exactly. 04-bow

Tasha
i've always felt lakers fans were worse, personally...
WVU fans are the worst. I have a picture of them peeing on their own field after a game. Not to mention couch burning and general moronic behavior.

Amen. The Crazies can be classless... but are also witty and almost never ever violent.

And I hope you all know that the Crazies were satirizing the SJU fans who routinely chant "Fire Jarvis"...
In 1991 and 1992, when such celebrations degenerated into unruly and dangerous situations, dozens of injuries resulted from drunken assaults; students trying to run through, or being pushed into, the fire; and bottles being thrown into the crowds. More than a dozen students ended up in the emergency room of Duke Hospital with second- and third-degree burns
