As first reported by the Charlotte Observer this morning, Inside Carolina has confirmed that Latta committed to UNC this morning in a press conference at her high school, York (S.C) Comprehensive.
The all-out recruiting battle for the flashy 5-6 point guard has been going on for years - she arrived on the national basketball scene as an eighth grader, garnering all-state honors that year and every year after. As a sophomore, she averaged 33 points a game and after strong summer circuit play, her 36.3 points a game on the way to the 27-3 season and South Carolina AAA state championship made her one of the most highly sought after guards in the country.

Over the summer, Latta was thought to have shortened her list to Notre Dame, UConn, South Carolina, and North Carolina. Given the full court press by UConn, the New Haven Register listed her as one of UConn's seven primary recruits for the year.

Latta was the runner-up in several Miss Basketball awards - to present UNC freshman LaTangela Atkinson. She was honored as the Charlotte Observer's player of the year last season and as one of the top 10 juniors in the country by Student Sports.

And in a mere 354 points, she will break the South Carolina scoring record held by Allison Feaster of the Charlotte Sting.

Latta attended UNC camp this summer and according to the Charlotte Observer, seemed very comfortable with the Heels. For the second straight year, she played with the AAU squad Team North Carolina that includes fellow UNC commitment Mary Hall McArver as well. Latta and McArver were two of four returning players, along with UNC forward target Camille Little.
Sounds like she is an awesome ball player! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" />

UNC women's basketball has really had some players that have turned out to be big-time athletes after UNC: Marion Jones/Nikki Teasley! <img border="0" alt="[Cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/cheers.gif" />
