The Dallas Mavericks have agreed to trade oft-complaining forward Antoine Walker and guard Tony Delk to the Atlanta Hawks Tuesday for guard Jason Terry, forward Alan Henderson and a first-round draft pick according to the Dallas Morning News.

Walker, whom the Mavericks reportedly tried to trade for quite some time, returns to the Eastern Conference where he prospered for the first seven seasons of his career with the Boston Celtics. He later worked with Paul Pierce in Boston to form one of the NBA's most formidable scoring tandems.

Walker averaged 14 points and 8.3 rebounds in one season with the Mavericks. He reportedly had trouble fitting in to coach Don Nelson's offensive scheme, especially after Nelson asked him to play center after switching him from the point forward spot.

The trade will be approved after the NBA's league offices reopen Wednesday.

Left with a huge hole at point guard after Steve Nash signed with the Suns as a free agent, it is expected that Terry will give the Mavericks stability at point guard. He has averaged 16.2 points and 5.5 assists for his career.

As the Morning News points out, the arrival of Terry is sure to please Nelson, who has lobied for the addition of a veteran point guard so the team is not forced into throwing first-round draft pick 'into the fire' as a rookie.

Nice trade for the Mavs, picking up Terry to replace Nash. The Hawks now have a nice forward combo in Harrington and Walker, but are still the worst team in the NBA. Now getting Dampier might change that.
Great trade for the Hawks. Terry's a loser.

He's a loser because he was on the Hawks.
And because he never made the big shot.
He never made any shot. He's not a team leader and they'll learn that soon.
Very true. Going from Steve Nash to Jason Terry is not a good move.
Of course not. And I'm glad we pick up Tony Delk and Walker and more cap space. THANK YOU MARK CUBAN 04-bow
Jason Terry is no Steve Nash, but he will fill the scoring need nicely for the Mavs. He is now the #3 man behind Nowitzki and Finley, and that spot will fit him and the Mavs nicely. He won't have to hit big shots.

Meanwhile, the Mavs definitely don't need Antoine Walker throwing up shots from everywhere. Walker will put up big numbers in Atlanta, but no team will win with Walker as their go-to guy.

And if you think Terry can't hit big shots, what about Walker's playoff disappearances with Boston where he shot 21% from the field. This guy is no team leader either. I would rather have Terry, I have never been a Walker fan.
Me neither, because he went to UK. Tubby is too scared to play UC, he plays UNC, Louisville, and Kansas, but no UC.
Boston won with Walker.

We won't win this year, but is Childress develops, we get a solid PG, and Dampier, a year from now is a good possibility of making the playoffs.

Boston won with Pierce. Walker just rode along for the ride. He disappeared in the playoffs.

As far as the Hawks, if they get Dampier that would be the biggest free agent pickup this summer. They could certainly pull a Denver and compete next year. And Childress will just be a solid role player. I would watch Josh Smith.
