I understand you don't believe in the death penalty and that's your perogative, but tell me why you don't think the person that did this:

Doesn't deserve to die a long, horrible death.

No doubt she deserves to live a terrible life for the rest of her earthly life, but putting people to death, IMO, is barbaric to do even to the most despicable people in society.

And to most of these people, death is not so bad. Work is what they want to avoid. They ought to put inmates to constructive work, like some prisons do.
I believe in the Death penalty in principle but, Dear Good Lord In Heaven, this lady has a demon in her soul and could not be in her right mind.

I don't know..................... 03-confused
Does the Death Penalty really work in America? The number of murders is still way too high for a country that enforces death to all those who commit murder. All European countries do not have a death penalty and yet they still manage to have the lowest murder rates per capita in the world.

this is purely a theory, but could it be that the reason european countries have a lower rate is because they're more homogenius?

Everything is a theory when it comes to the Death Penalty. There is no research that shows a direct correlation between the death penalty and murder rates, but some statistics don't lie. The fact is that countries without a death penalty tend to have a lower murder rate per capita.

You sure its not that they have no need for the death penalty because they don't have a high murder rate?

Guest

Well Kev, the death penalty is obviously not working as a viable solution to the already existing murder problem here.

Perhaps the institution of the death penalty creates a culture that actually subconsciously promotes murder?

Rebel

....or perhaps we should start having public executions again.

Right, and witch hunts, too!

I think you are taking what I said just a little too much out of context. Some people don't deserve to live on the planet with the civilized world.

Guest

And who is supposed to judge that?

the murderers. imo, people decide their own fate. if you murder someone, you should have your life taken as well.

In this age of DNA evidence, there are all sorts of cases where it has been proved that death penalty victims actually did not do the crime. In fact, that is one area that my uncle has spent much of his life researching... You'd be surprised how many innocent people the death penalty has put to death.

And what about the Pedersen trial? The guy probably did it, IMO, but the evidence is so spotty... can you really put him to death over it?

Guest

And what does it say to other countries when we so openly put our own innocents to death? It's borderline terrorism.

Guest

And before you say it... I am not comparing the death penalty to people like Osama Bin Laden. I know some of you are quick to that trigger... I'll save you the energy.

Rebel

What if DNA proves the case then Nate?

Give them quadruple life (if that exists), and make them do constructive work.

Why? So they can kill some less-violent offender who has a chance at rehabilitation because they really don't care how long their sentence is?
