Quote:Baseball's Angels have a new name, and it's a mouthful: The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The American League club's latest in a series of name changes could provoke a fight with the Anaheim City Council. Anaheim officials claim the change breaks the terms of the team's 33-year lease with the city.

When the franchise began in 1961, owned by singing cowboy Gene Autry, it was the Los Angeles Angels. The team became the California Angels when it moved to Anaheim in 1966. In 1997, when the team was controlled by The Walt Disney Co., the franchise was renamed the Anaheim Angels.

Just another blunder by MLB that will slowly drive even more fans from the games. (IMO)
this won't take any fans from the game. this might be stupid, but MLB will not lose fans over it. In fact, after this Balco thing reared it's head, baseball's ratings kept going up.

The people tuning to see the latest on the BALCO scandal want to see how baseball will react to it. So far, nothing has changed when the fans want change.

And for the record, this does take away one fan. ME. This is an absolute joke. I'll still cheer for my Braves and root for anyone playing the Yanks, but the rest of the MLB sucks!
I've rapidly lost all interest in it for the past five or six years.
Actually, it has taken away fans. Two of my friends were commenting on this earlier and both swore they'd never watch another game.

I've always been a huge baseball fan, but after the Series got cancelled, and players cheating left and right....a tie game at the "All-Star Fiasco", Bud Selig and now this joke of a name change....I doubt I watch a game unless the Reds are playing. Baseball is slowly going down the tubes.

of course it has taken away fans. but it has been a net gain for baseball. how else do you explain baseball's recent climb back to the numbers they had in 1993? I'm sorry but you can't argue with the numbers.

and, for the record, fans seem to be oblivious to the daunting problems in every other sport.

Fact: Interest in MLB has gone down in the past 5 or 6 years , mainly in part to steroids and the Yankees paying at all costs.
Crazy *** Bud Selig what is he trying to do ruin the game. Oh wait he already has. it'll take the next commish his entire commish time to fix what this baffon has done.
are all of you blind? maybe people you know have lost interest in MLB, but the numbers show that baseball is strong again.

yes it is but somebody needs to take Bud Selig out back and beat the livin **** out of him.
Not true swoosh. I read an article in the paper that a survey was done among sports fans in America. 30% of those questions listed football as their primary sport. For the 7th straight year, baseball lost ground to football and was down to 15%. I tried to find the article online, but have not yet succeeded in finding it. When I do, I'll post it.
Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim sounds like a team with a personality disorder. The Angels should stay true to the OC.

i'm sorry but i know my facts. it is true that america chooses the NFL over MLB, but baseball has really seen a surge in their ratings the past few seasons. Did none of you happen to watch ESPN throughout the whole baseball season, when the top columnists kept saying "it's a shame this steroid issue had to come up, since baseball is finally back to where it was before the strike of '94."?

i used to hate bud, but i think he has been doing a great job during the last 4-5 years. he started interleague play, which has helped baseball a lot. he avoided a strike by striking up a great CBA. Has he done some bad things, yes. but for the most part he's helped baseball.
I'd rather watch Extreme Dodgeball on GSN than watch MLB... that's pretty sad.

i'd rather watch the show "yes, dear" than watch college football, but that doesn't mean college football isn't popular.
