I find this very interesting, since many conservatives believe that the news media tend to be liberal.
I've always said that liberals are their own worst enemy.
Frankly, there are times that the news media needs to reign it in, for the safety of the country. Ideally, they'd monitor themselves, and we wouldn't resort to "laws" to replace "self-control".

Wow. That statistic is disturbing. Hopefully once that 36% finish school and get out into the real world, many of them will acquire a brain and realize how ridiculous they sounded.

Clearly these kids aren't being taught the constitution, but it's also prudent to ask why they think that?
Part of the blame has to go to the media as well. Rathergate, tabloids, sensationalism etc. have instituted distrust of the media into people.
Teachers are partly to blame the media are the others.

I don't agree with "Government Approval", but I would like to see some sort of independent 3rd party who verifies stories or determines national security type leaks. The news has become such big business that these guys don't care if the story is right or not. It is all about being the 1st with a story and the story has to be a shocking as possible to up the ratings. It feels like abuot 25% of the channels on cable are now news related....
It seems to me that the new agencies are pretty selective on what is news. Two soldiers are killed in Iraq.....front page news. Two youngsters are gunned down in a drive by shooting in L.A., local news, but not national. What are the news agencies trying to prove by putting a story like that in the news? That we shouldn't be in Iraq. That is an opinion, not news. Outside of the fact that it might have put more military personnel at risk, I liked the piece on there not being enough armor on the U.S. transport vehicles, as it forced the govenment to address the problem. However, again, I did not like the way it was done. i.e. the reporter planted the questions he wanted asked with specific military personnel.

That's the beauty of Capitalism. I don't agree with any government approval whatsoever, the viewers(consumers) will decide.
However, anything that has a hint of being detrimental to national security should be investigated to the fullest of our abilities. As for some of the stations today, I do feel that some are circumventing truth for what sells in todays world, violence. You are more likely to hear about a bounded insurgent going into his back pocket and shot than you are an entire platoon building a school and playground for Iraqi school children. I do want to see some responsibility, but hopefully the people will dictate that.

I would like to think that people could dictate that, but I believe that most people are inherently stupid and will go like sheep to the slaughter to what ever is fed to them. i.e. my uncle stopped shopping at Kmart because there was a report on 20/20 or something about suppliers to Kmart using child labor. I didn't have to heart to tell them that all the other stores like Walmart, etc. were also doing the same thing. Too many American buy into the idea that if it is on T.V. it must be true. No one wants to think for themselves anymore.

As a spouse of an educator(primary), I can assure you our public schools are not as bad as many would want you to believe, unfortunately many children are a reflection of their parents, this is particularly evident at schools in the poorer, rougher neighborhoods. It is the family and parents around the nation causing so many problems with the youths not the educational system. I am disturbed though, by the liberal/democratic mindset of the school system administrators who have even gone as far as to suggest to teachers who to vote for in the presidential election. The public schools will provide your children with great opportunities to learn, grow and suceed. You as a parent must complete the circle by doing your part as well.

I agree. My best friend in Augusta is a teacher. His wife is ALSO a teacher. I was his best man. He's from Kitchner-Waterloo, ON and she is from Augusta. He teaches at an "at-risk" school in Louisville, Ga. She teaches at Steven's Creek Elem., a school that has students with a LOT of money. He ******* daily about no support from the state, however, as bad as he wants to leave, he's perfect for that job....and he knows it. He teaches crack-babies with no father. He has capital because he's white, many of them are black, but he went to Paine College on a baseball scholarship. Paine is a private black school like Morehouse, without the distinction. I realize it has to do with parents A LOT. However, I do NOT believe the NEA has children on the list of priorities. That's my point. School isn't like it was when I was attending in the 80's-'91.
I agree with you in that the system has changed and has become more political in nature. The important thing is that the resources and opportunity exist across the board. In some ways the educational system reflects society, many want a handout and many will not exept responsibility for their actions.
