[quote]Under the influence of a mercurial coach and a sluggish Athletic Department, Duke’s baseball team has endured coaching misconduct that has led to a collapse of morale and hampered its ability to win, The Chronicle has learned.

Head coach Bill Hillier brought consensus top-20 recruiting classes to Duke during his first two seasons, but the program has been rattled by a 116-201 record, 12 players who transferred and 22 total who have left the team. Even as players have accused Hillier of implicitly encouraging steroid use and dissatisfaction with his coaching has mounted, the Athletic Department renewed his contract after each of his five losing seasons.

Although the University and several players said steroids are not currently a problem in the program, two players who have since transferred, Aaron Kempster and Grant Stanley, both told The Chronicle they injected themselves with steroids during the summer of 2002.

Wow...did not expect that from a team that loses. You expect it with the Barry Bonds', Mark McGwire's, Jose Canseco's, but a losing team? Wow
you wouldn't expect it from college sports either.
Surely this couldn't happen at a university as ethical as dook????

if the word "university" is in the name, it can't be ethical.

I imagine it happens much more than we all may believe. Go to most any gym and you can find the stuff. Universities are not immune from it.
Where can I get my hands on some Testerona?? What have they ran out of names for Juice? Sounds like a roller coaster ride.
That's very true, rick. This was going on at my high school in the mid-80s...coaches giving product to the players. You ever see the pro wrestler, Buff Bagwell? Yep, got his start on 'roids back then...
I used to lift a lot. Back in the late 70's and early 80's I knew a lot of guys who used. I resisted and am very glad I did.
Wow , very surprising and dissapointing. Hopefully they get things cleaned up

are you really surprised?
our high school football team played Jordan High School this year. The lightest guy on Jordan's O-Line was 265. there were at least 2 300 pounders. i refuse to believe they got that way by eating a lot.

I'm pretty suprised. I've heard of athletes using 'roids on their own, but never a coach "enforcing" it.
The Duke coach should start his players off with something easier like batting and fielding practice before he escalates to steroids.
