What criteria are you judging Rolen on? I'm a Cardinals fan, but he's been out a good chunk of the season so far. Are you saying no one else has even touched what he has done at third base in the NL this year?

he hasn't lost anything, in terms of his fielding skills, which means he is still far and away the best 3rd baseman i've ever seen. would you like me to put joe randa in that spot?
True he hasn't lost anything, but he's been out a good part of the season. Do you think Randa is really the next best? I can't believe that.

What about David Bell or Morgan Ensberg? I like Rolen, but he's only played in 47 games so far. Rolen also has the same amount of errors that Randa has (5) in about 2/3 the time. Of course with Eckstein he's been having to cover a little bit more ground.
ensberg is an awful fielder! he has hands of stone. true, david bell is an excellent fielder. but scott rolen is right up there with brooks robinson.
hey BR, why don't you post your awards? we could use as many people as possible, posting here.

True that.

it would be great if we could have at least 8-10 regular posters. that would really make this board come alive.
NL MVP: Derrek Lee
CY Young: The D Train
ROY: Lance Niekro, with a homer pick of Kelly Johnson close behind
Rolaids Relief: Cordero

AL MVP: Big Papi or Mark Teixeira
AL CY Young: Halladay
ROY: To Iguchi
Rolaids relief: Dustin Hermanson
I would, but I'm no expert (as per my Ensberg comment :D ). I follow the NL central, and that's about it. Cards and Reds; both ends of the spectrum; best and the worst. I do read here often, however. I'll make more of an effort to comment more often.

umm, big papi doesn't even play a position. he's a DH.

NL Rolaids: Cordero
NL Manager: Bobby Cox

AL MVP: Brian Roberts
AL Cy Young: Halladay

i forgot to put the managers, but i completely agree.

also, i forgot about Rivera. he is always under the radar. but i agree, with your selection of him.

I think he kind of lost some luster after he got cuffed around early in the year, but he's been his old self since then.
as for d. lee, i picked him because his team is more than in the race, even thought they are under .500. but andruw, is an extremely close second.

DH's have placed highly before. Frank Thomas won it in '94 while playing a lot of games at DH, and Ortiz and Edgar Martinez have come close to winning it before. Saying a DH can't win it is about like saying a pitcher can't win it.

Thanks, I was basing my assessment on the stats I found on mlb.com. Ensberg had a good range factor, and FPCT. I know they don't tell the whole story, but I haven't seen him play much.

I didn't even realize that. Against teams not named the Red Sox, he's allowed 1 run in 31 innings this year - that adds up to an ERA of 0.58.
