I'm assuming everyone saw it. Some random thoughts:

1) The white boy had mad game from downtown. I can't remember his name now (I've blocked it from memory forever), but he was on fire. And we didn't have a guy near him half the time....

2) We got schooled trying to play defense. A good defensive team makes the offense work for shots. We gave them everything they wanted on a shiny silver platter.

3) I liked most of the first half. Hard-fought play from both teams, and we hung in there when it could have gotten a little away from us nearing halftime. When we went in at the break, I felt confident that the second half would also be evenly-played.

4) Turnovers. The guys were sloppy with the ball tonight. I know Illinois had something to do with that, but a lot of those turnovers were unforced. Nothing makes me want to :bang: more than played sloppy basketball.

5) Somebody tell the Illinois crowd that you don't chant "Overrated" at a team and then rush the court when the game ends. That tends to send mixed signals and confuse a lot of people....

6) We packed it up and went home with about six or so minutes left. I guess the guys knew by about then that it just wasn't our night -- we had been working so hard just to score on our end, and then giving it up easily to them on the other end. I guess the guys just decided it wasn't worth it anymore at that point.

7) The Illinois team that showed up tonight would have beaten us even if we'd brought our A game.

Did I miss anything?

Yeah, you did

Even with the loss, you're 5-1, much, much better than a year to go, with more victories to come.

Yeah, Heels....
Good point. I'll take 5-1 with the schedule we've played any day. Kentucky will also be tough, but shouldn't be as tough as Illinois was -- unless they're shooting lights out.

Maybe next year, we can play a non ranked team in Greensboro
We'll be fine folks. I was expecting a let down sometime, and on the road against Illinois is a very tough game. We all knew the losses were coming. I am just gald to get the out of the way now. This should refocus the guys. But we have all seen the extremes: the good (PNIT), the worst (Illini). Let's just hope we can patch up our weak spots, learn, and improve as we approach the opening of conf. play. Go Heels!

Actually, I was wondering how we got stuck with Illinois, a 26-9 team who made the Great 8 a year ago. Seems like we should have drawn somebody about like Michigan, a 10-18 team last year.

I'm not a big fan of these conference vs. conference setups, but if we're going to do it the pairings ought to make more sense than that.
The word is that they apparently set all these games up a few years back. If so, it's amazing that some of the games have been as evenly-matched as they have (like MD-IU, GT-Minn, WF-Wisc this year).
