Scout says that Iowa commit, Beas Hamga, a top 50 7 footer, has reopened his recruitment. He lists Memphis along with about seven others as leaders. Scout has him as the 13th ranked center in the 2008 class.
Just checked -- Rivals has Hamga as the #3 center and overall #33 in the 2008 class.

Keith, you know anything about Beas?

After Dorsey leaves we have no legit 'top 20 type' center in the wings. Taggart doesn't fit that description, so I've heard. Cooper? No way. Bailey? LOL. IF --- a legit center wants to come to Memphis I'm sure there will be a way to find a place on the team. A must get position IMHO.
After signing Derrick Rose, I figured it wouldn't be long before Cal and staff started getting more involved at Decatur Christian School, in the Chicago suburbs, which is where Hamga is playing. Hamga is from Cameroon (Don't know the city, probably the capital, Yaounde), like Simplice Njoya, and was brought over by coach Alan Huss along with a number of other foreign players:

SG/SF Lucca Staiger, from Baulstein, Germany, who has signed with Iowa State, is the most high-profile of the players to date. That's probably why Iowa State is mentioned among Hamga's choices. He had been committed to Alford and Iowa for some time. The list Hamga is giving out just sounds like a list of prominent schools that have contacted him. Indiana has shown some interest in him along with Angel Garcia, another big man the Tigers have looked at.

Hamga is regarded as a solid prospect, though his offensive game needs some work. Hard to say what level of interest the Tigers would have in him. They're still trying to find a way to fit in the Morris twins and another player or two for 2008.

Also, PF Jeremy Robinson is still playing over at nearby Decatur Eisenhower HS, along with PG Lewis Jackson. I haven't heard anything about Robinson's college plans lately. He's one of the top 10 prospects in Illinois, though. Iowa was also thought to have a good shot at Jackson before Alford left, but Illinois has started to show a lot of interest.

Unless there are defections all recruiting efforts are bing spent on the classes of 08 and 09.
Thanks Easterwood.

Also thanks Idaho for all the info. One small (and ultimately not very important) correction: Decatur, IL is about 180 miles from Chicago - I live kind of in between them, so that jumps out at me. (I know nothing about Idaho geography aside from the general shape, by the way).

Anyway, Chicagoland is a big sprawl of burbs, but not that big!

I'm not jumping on you Idaho - I appreciate your really in-depth and informative posts. Just thought I'd share fyi, so if you're imagining the location, it's a small city between Springfield and Champaign-Urbana on I-72. Central Illinois.
