Where's Joey Dozier when you need him?

Mike Finger: Memphis' newest showboat

San Antonio Express-News

Pick Memphis to win because of the chip on its shoulder. Because Ohio State is running out of miracle comebacks. Because Rod Strickland hasn't been around the Tigers long enough to teach them any behind-the-head passes.
And most of all, pick the Tigers because they might even be half as good as they think they are.

You want swagger? Memphis exudes it like barbecue sauce. If it isn't John Calipari letting everyone in the room know he's smarter than them, it's point guard Willie Kemp conducting interviews while reclining on the floor, iPod blaring, cell phone in hand.

Or it's Joey Dorsey

Go Tigers!

How long til game time?

I've got to find something to do before I jump out of my skin.....

YARD WORK!
Go TIGERS Go!!!
now, we are trash talking opponents? we have not been doing this during this great streak of W's. Not sure how I feel about this.
I don't like it one bit.
Hope this is not turning into a distraction.
this stuff has been out since yesterday afternoon, so some of us have been dealing with it since then, and right now, I feel about like CDR...I wish Joey hadn't said it BUT-

it was not trash talk. Joey just made the mistake of saying what he feels.

I like the fact he feels that way, and I also wish he hadn't said it. But he does not trash Oden. A lot of objective commentators would agree that Oden has not been playing up to the hype.

Joey said A LOT of things in his interview, and most of this came after being asked multiple times about the Oden matchup by reporters who could sense his confidence and were trying to get him to say how he feels. They succeeded.

I agree with what the reporter says - the Tigers really believe they can win, and that is the most important thing.

By the way, I don't think this is any more "trash talking" than when they said they weren't really celebrating the CUSA championship because they had a bigger goal. That was before the CUSA tourney, but they weren't talking about the CUSA tourney.

Also, I agree with a comment that was made yesterday: if Oden needs this to get fired up for the elite 8 game, then I like our chances even more.
maybe it was better when Joey wasn't talking to the media.
Look, whoever plays better is going to win the game...period!! OSU might come out a bit more fired up to begin with, but both teams will settle in and play hoops eventually. 01-wingedeagle
This could be a positive.

This could get Oden a little too amped for this game. He might try to block too many shots and get in foul trouble.

I'm not worried about Joey....Joey does what Joey does. This team is more than capable of beating OSU. OSU is lucky to be playing in this game.

It's all Joey's Master plan....... Muhahahahahaha

Exactly. I agree with Joey. He's just telling the truth the way he sees it Oden is WAY overrated. It's their guards we have to look out for.
If Ohio State needs to be fired up by Joey's confident player-speak 2 days before the game, then they're not ready. It may fire up their fans, but they will be severely outnumbered by ours. It's a story for the fans and talking heads to discuss, nothing more and nothing less. Personally, I'm glad they feel that way and let it be known. It will be an even better story after we win.
Sometimes, I find it helpful to throw out some sort of challenge for myself so I can raise the my own level of expectation. Maybe Joey is challenging HIMSELF more than he is Mr. Oden.

He now has to back up his words to prove to himself he can set a goal and achive that goal. If he fails, he will at least know he gave it his best shot.

.....then there's always NEXT year!!! 05-mafia 05-mafia (Hope he's back with us for another great run in 06-07.)

The interview here with Joey is actually pretty good.
yeah, but reporters only want the parts they can sensationalize, NOT the whole story.

how's that for journalistic ethics?

Just exactly what the "Louisville Lip" aka Cassius Marcellis Clay aka Mohammad Ali used to do. He did alright.

Spank that A$$, Joey, take his dayum lunch money!!!
It isn't BS if you can back it up. If you talk the talk......you got to walk the walk. Jimmy Johnson once guaranteed a COWBOYS victory before a game. The BOYS delivered. Time for the TIGERS to walk the walk.
