I am planning a trip for the wife and I and was curious if anybody had any good suggestions on places to stay in Hot Springs.

I know we are all hot and heavy into the NCAA tourney, but any help would be appreciated.
The Arlington Resort Hotel. Awesome hotel.

I second that.
The Arlington has the ambiance but don't expect the rooms to be that nice. I stayed there recently and they are old in every way. The veranda of the Arlington, the lobby, the history, are all reasons to stay there but certainly not their rooms. Also, their cable service sucks so if you are thinking basketball all weekend, you may want to find a good sports bar.

If you want comfort, stay at the Embassy Suites next to the brand new convention center. You will still be downtown and within walking distance of Bath House row.
and of all things, I hope you make it to the horse races... Now that is a great social event you will not want to miss...
I live 30 min from Hot Springs. I second that on staying at the Embassy Suites. You can visit the Arlington's attraction, but you don't want to stay there. Similar to a run down Peabody.

I suggest eating at the Brau House which will be on the walk towards Bath House row. It is a German theme restaurant with excellent crusine and good selections of German beers. Also, consider a Hot Springs Bath. Only one of the Bath Houses is in operation. It is like going to Graceland, only out of towners go there, not the natives. Out by the racetrack on Higdon Ferry Rd is Ryans BQ. It is the best in Hot Springs (don't go to McClard's). You can Ryans if you are standing in front of the racetrack. Higdon Ferry is the street running into Central Ave. in front of the racetrack.

Hot Springs is beautiful this time of the year. Have fun.
For an awesome experience, try staying at Tinkerbelle's 1884 Wildwood Bed and Breakfast...it's about 2 minutes from downtown Hot Springs.

My better half and I stayed there about 2 years ago; we'll definitely go back the next time we visit Hot Springs.

Nice lobby...rooms smell like a nursing home.
yeah eat at the Brau House if you want your intestines to feel like you swallowed a brick and washed it down with sewer water. horrible german food.

and the pancake house that all of the little people line up to eat at every morning on the strip, crap. absolute crap.

Anything that has been mentioned is good. If you are there thru Sunday you should go for a great brunch at The Arlington, or you can eat at the Pancake House just down the street. I don't think it's crap as mentioned above, and I've never been there when I didn't see someone from Memphis.

I didn't see anyone metion Coy's, a great steak and seafood place that has been in HS forever.

There is a hole in the wall restaurant that I can't think of right now, it's a guy's single name, someone help me, great catfish and barbeque.
My wife loves the Embassy Suites. There service truly was 2nd to none. Arlington is nice for nastalgia but you'll feel like your on Gunsmoke.

if you do decide to go stand in line behind a bunch of middle aged men with tooth picks in their mouths and their wives waiting for 45 minutes to eat that swill at the PK house, consider yourself warned.

better to just have a bloody mary and a cigarette on the porch of the arlington.
Brau House is fine - I guess to each his own. I have gone there six or seven times all wilh excellent food and service. In that same area, there is a few steak places that look interesting, but I never tried them.

Maybe the Restlaurant in on Lake Hamilton is the Hamilton House. Good Food. I was told it was originally owned by a Chicago Mafia back in the days when Hot Springs was wide open. Also, Coy's located off the main drag into Hot Springs from the east is on the lright - watch for the sign.
I have heard good thing's about Rocky's Pizza right across from the track.

I ate at La Hacienda recently and it was pretty good Mexican food. It's not a chain, it's a local family who runs it. (The refried beans are made from scratch, with real lard, and they don't use ground beef in their tacos, but seasoned steak, etc.)
If you are insistent on staying in one of the more historic hotels, The Park also has a beautilful lobby, and big rooms which, like the Arlington, smell kinda like a retirement home. GORGEOUS view fromt the windows, though.

I second that - we had to scramble for a quick place to stay after our wedding b/c our resort in Jamaica got destroyed by Hurricane Ivan the week before, so we picked the Arlington.

The lobby & bar is awesome, and the hot tub was nice at night (built in the side of a mountain), but our room was tiny & OLD. They may have renovated since 2004, but don't count on it.

And don't pay their prices for the bath houses, if you choose to do that. Go to one down the street on bath house row & save some $$.
My parents have a place on hamilton so we are down there quite a bit, but we don't spend much time downtown.

There is a place near the german resturant I like, Brickhouse grill. They have good steaks and we have been treated well there, but some people have said the service can be hit or miss.

Doe's on the lake is pretty good as well.

I'll have to try the Mexican resturant next time I am down there.

WE must go to the pancake house at different times, I guess during racing season there is a different clientele in there.

Or you could do as you suggest. The Arlington might make the best Bloody Mary in the world!
My parents have a place on lake hamilton and we went to Coy's one night. Oh my gosh I loved it. It was really good.
Great information! Unfortunatley the Embassy and Arlington are booked the weekend we are going. I have made reservations at the Austin, which is next to the Convention Center. If anybody has any horror stories please let me know.

Again, thanks for the help and back to basketball I go!
