Full Version: Rating change in the works for Barnett

Below is a copy of my exchange with the folks at Scout. It looks like Barnett got forgotten and was not rated this year. They retruned my e-mails very quickly. Kevin is the JUCO guru. Miller covers the HS Southeast region.

Thanks Kevin. I would guess you would have him no less than a 3 star, possibly a 4. We need all the help we can get in the rankings! Let me know what you come up with.

1 star means he's not rated. He's not a 1 star...he is unrated due to an oversight I guess. Could be that when someone changed his position (may have happened; wasn't me) that he went from being rated to not rated. That's what happens when a prospect gets moved around in one way or another in the Scout database...any ranking they had gets dumped.

I'll look into it.

I first sent this over to Miller and he said to send it to you. You may get a copy from him.

I have a quick question about how a player is rated or more to the point, how a rating can change from one year to the next.

Two examples are Freddie Barnett, a University of Memphis mid-year enrollee and Powe, a University of Mississippi recruit who has yet to meet requirements.

Barnett was highly regarded out of high school with the following credentials: Trinity Valley Community College defensive standout Freddie Barnett has signed to play for the University of Memphis, and is enrolled in school this semester Coach Tommy West announced today. A 6-2, 300-pound defensive tackle, Barnett will practice with the Tigers this spring and will have two years of eligibility remaining. He originally signed in 2004 with the Arkansas Razorbacks out of Arkansas High in Texarkana, Ark., but attended Trinity Valley Community College in Athens, Texas. Barnett, ranked the No. 20 junior college prospect by Rivals.com, earned preseason first-team JC Gridwire All-America honors as a sophomore after helping lead his team to a conference and regional title and a berth in a bowl game. As a sophomore, he recorded 37 tackles with 3.5 sacks in helping the Cardinals go 9-3 with conference and regional titles. TVCC topped Northeast Mississippi, 24-14, in the Pilgrim's Pride Bowl Classic. In his freshman season, he earned all-league honors at Trinity after totaling 46 tackles and three sacks.
A standout at Arkansas High School, Barnett earned a spot on the Associated Press Arkansas Super Team and the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette All-Arkansas Team as a senior after totaling 60 tackles, including 15 tackles for loss and eight sacks. He also blocked five kicks in his final prep campaign. He played in only five games as a junior due to a knee injury. In addition, he was named the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette Defensive Player of the Year as a sophomore after logging 97 tackles, including 49 solo stops, and eight sacks. He also forced three fumbles and recovered two fumbles en route to earning first-team all-conference honors that season.
Following his senior year at AHS, Rivals.com tabbed him as the No. 5 prospect in Arkansas. A year later, he was rated as the No. 42 defensive tackle in the nation and the No. 4 recruit in Arkansas

Scout has him rated as 1 star.

Powe was no doubt a fine athlete but has not played football for two years. While he may qualify at some point, his credential thus far have not impressed Ole Miss officials out side of the football office or the NCAA. Yet there was little change in his ranking.

How does this happen?

Thanks for your insight.

ok, am I missing something? Where does it say they will change his rating?

And that's pretty good getting a response. I e-mailed the rivals people a couple of times concerning our mid-year Juco signees so they would change them from the "committed" list to the signed LOI list. Even gave them the link to The University press release. Never got a response, and they weren't ever changed until signing day.

I trust a man until he proves he can't be trusted. He said that Barnett had not been rated and was overlooked. He said he would check it out.

This is Sout not Rivals. I got responses from two people within hours each time. We will see what happens!
Good job!
