Does anyone else know why Scout and Rivals are not listing Phelps as a verbal to Memphis?

Are there any other verbals we have that are not listed on Scout?

Which football recruits are supposed to be taking a visit to Memphis this weekend?

would be interested in knowing the answer to this question also...
This is pure speculation but I have notice that he has a second high interest in Washington State, yet, no offer. I read IdahoTiger's inside info from scout.com, he had a talk with his coach; he wondered why no interest in him. His coach told him to be patient, the offers would come. The only problem with his coaches' statement is we are the only one to offer according to scout.com. The pressure maybe on him to make a decision or Tommy is moving to the next available option.
per rivals, he is only being recruited by us, MTSU, and Western KY. Per scout, it is us, Wash State, and Kansas State. Rivals shows no offers, scout only from us.

I don't think right now there is anyone with either scout or rivals who is updating the Memphis pages. As such, the only news links to those sites are automatically put there. If you look at rivals, there have been no new articles written about Memphis specifically for the site since the spring. There was someone who went by ToddVineyard who seemed to be running it at that time.

So until such time that either of those sites has enough paying interest from Memphis fans, we will only get second hand news through them.

Based on that, I would assume that Phelps isn't a big enough target for WSU, KSU, or MTSU that any of their writers have picked up on his commitment, even though scout lists him as a 3 star prospect. Interesting, rivals doesn't have him ranked, most likely because he isn't considering a BCS school per their site.
Chatt,

I think you are right on with all your comments. I've noticed as well over the past couple of years that the Memphis page is slow to be updated.

A little more information on Phelps in respect to WSU. I follow WSU's recruiting very closely, and Phelps was not really on WSU's radar to my knowledge. Phelps may have talked to Chris Peterson, who came from Bill Snyder's staff at Kansas State to become the recruiting co-ordinator at Washington State. The WSU staff may have talked to him about walking on (hence the "High" interest rating), but they never offererd him a scholarship.

The Cougs were looking for a back-up MLB for their starter, Greg Trent, who will be a junior next year; but they had an early commitment from Tyson Kirksey, a JC guy at Garden City Community College that they had signed out of high school in Texas and kept in contact with in junior college when he didn't qualify. He's the only MLB they are planning to sign.

Again, I think you are correct in saying that both Scout and Rivals cater to the big schools with the big fan bases. That's where the most users are--and the most money.

They seem to be doing okay with the Tiger prospect list. Many of the guys TigerEdward was talking about yesterday are on the list. But even there TE knew a lot more about what was going on with Memphis recruiting than the Scout staff. I think they know that Memphis tends to get a lot of their commits later in the season than some other teams, and that Tommy has the policy of secrecy in recruiting because of all the negative recruiting used against the Tigers. The major recruiting services just don't have as much information on Tiger recruits, and they aren't making an effort to find out because there isn't that much in it for them.

Probably in the next couple of days, the people at Scout and Rivals will get around to updating the non-BCS conferences, and Phelps's name will appear.

I contacted Todd Vinyard back in August and he let me know that he left Rivals and no replacement had been hired. Apparently, that's still the case.

Whoops. Let me clarify. I contacted Todd who put me in touch with the proper contact at Rivals (his boss I assume). I never heard anything back from Rivals and there have been no "customized" articles like there used to be when Todd was responsible. I have to assume that no one is working for tigersportsreport.com, the Memphis rivals site.
rivals now has him on the commitment list, but only as two stars.

scout still has him as 3 star, with high interest in us and Washington State, but only shows an offer from us.

Isn't Juco signing day next week for those who can enter in January?
