Word is that Kleiza may be getting reevaluated by Roy. I have seen Kleiza play, we need to wait 'till 2004.
Inside Carolina reported that there is rumbling in the recruiting circles that Roy may be trying to pursue Kleiza instead of Watkins.Never seen the kid play myself.Does this mean that Watkins is out of the picture?
Evidently he is opening up his recruitment again. Some folks say it is between FSU and UNC.
The longer this plays out, the better our chances. He is going back to Lithuania for the next few weeks, and I believe he plans to visit Chapel Hill when he returns. As Rudeboy over at THN phrased it, "The feeling is, once we get this kid on campus, IT'S OVER! " Linas is the kind of kid/player we need. Why wouldn't this kid want to come to UNC?!?!?!
Check out this thread in the recruiting forum about Kleiza. It has a link to some videos of him. Check it out.

Linas Kleiza will wait on his decision
By Chris Monter
Date: May 15, 2003

6-8 forward Linas Kleiza of Rockville (MD) Montrose Christian, one of the top unsigned players in the country, will not sign a letter on intent by today
A non binding scholarship agreement sounds like a good move on his part.My gut tells me he may be Heel bound yet.
He commited to Mizzou-oh well.
DAMN- I CURSED OUT LOUD WHEN I SAW THE HEADLINE. :bang:

WRONG MOVE BY THE BIG GUY, BUT I WISH HIM THE BEST OF LUCK. ON THE BRIGHT SIDE, WE ARE GONNA PULL IN A BIG TIME CLASS FROM 2004. LETS PRAY TO GOD OUR BIG MEN CAN STAY HEALTHY THIS YEAR.
There goes my gut! :bang:
Hoops, How can you say that it was the wrong move for him? That's quite an ignorant thing to say, IMO.

The way I see it:

Roy is a better coach than Quin.

Carolina has one of the richest hoops traditions in all college basketball.

He could have had the one of the best, maybe the best, point guards in the college game, feeding him the rock.

Our facilities (stadium, weight room, practice gym, etc.) are top-notch.

He would get to play with a great passing big man in Sean May.

He would be able to play and contribute from Day 1, but there would be very little pressure on him.

He wouldn't have had the burden of being the go to guy, because he would be playing with one of the most talented rosters in the country.

He would have been able to be a part of the future of Carolina hoops: success.

Anyways, my guess is that he couldn't go back on his word to Quin from long ago; I am sure Roy understands that and respects that. All in all, we move onto 2004. The picture is much clearer now, we have 2 schollies left and we are sure to bring in an awesome class. More to come on 2004 recruiting later.....
So... this is all assuming that Kleiza WANTS all those things. What if he wants to help build a program? What if he likes Quin more than Roy? What if he likes Missouri's atmosphere/academics better?

There are tons of "ifs". You can't say if it was a good or bad move for him. That's arrogant, ignorant and impossible.
I have to agree with Nate here. I don't like it when a good player chooses someone else over us, but I can't fault them for it -- unless I know the reason and I think it's a crappy one. The football player that went to FSU instead of UNC because he was told that their business school was better -- that was a bad decision. As for Kleiza, I don't know the reasons... so I can't make a judgment.
