I heard that Cannon commited to Ole Piss now? My source is a girl from class so I didn't take it very litterally.

Any news?

I know he decommited to us and was looking, but haven't heard anything since then.

Just speculation, but with the heat now being turned up by the staff on Dallas Walker, I suspect Cannon may be destined to be a penny loaf, polo wearing Ole Missy Sissy before too long. Thanks little Miss Tuohy and Smelly Cordeli. 05-stirthepot ;-)

Seriously though, Walker wouldn't be a bad pickup.
Dallas Walker would be a good get...

will be interesting given attrition and injury and only being able to sign 25 to see how things shake out over the signing period, then the summer and spring and into the fall...we might have to have more walk-ons than usual just because of the numbers...
TE,

How many JC's do you anticipate they will bring in and try to play immediately? I would think that, regardless of how many high schoolers they sign this year, they would be unlikely to get more than a couple who could come in and have an immediate impact. They would have to be getting Chris Walker-type players for that to happen. The majority of the signees will likely be redshirted or have to play a year or two to really be effective.

On Hoop Dreams's comments about walk-ons, I have some reservations about that. The fact that so many walk-ons have either been starting or playing prominent roles on defense and the special teams in recent years was a sign to me that something was wrong with the scholarship players they were recruiting in those areas. Oftentimes, when you see a lot of walk-ons starting somewhere like the defensive backfield, where speed and athleticism are so important, you can have real problems. I guess some will disagree with me on this point.

The season-ending victory could provide a real boost to the recruiting efforts, though, and create a positive atmosphere going into Spring ball.

Remember that we will sign a few mid year guys that will count towards last year's numbers. There has been some attrition this past year such as Donald Thornton, Cortez McCraney, Ollen Whitley, etc, plus
Rod Smith's scholarship won't count towards the total limit if he is unable to play again. When it is all said and done, we will have a couple more signings than 25.
I think Dallas would be a good pickup for us. But I think he would be better suited to play at the TE position. Memphis is also after Kirk Lance from Oak Grove. He put up the most passing yards in the state last year and this year he had another great passing year. He is the same size as Cannon. I know Memphis was also looking at the Big QB from Madison Central. He is 6'5 and is a load to bring down. He doesn't pass the ball much. His team runs a triple option and he runs alot. Would be another Good TE. Only one problem on him though. After OB played Madison Central a couple weeks ago. He was arrested at his house the following Saturday for giving alcohol to a minor. When they searched him room they found Steriods.

I guess that is where I was confused and why I thought there would be more walk-ons than usual just to fill out the team...I thought that no matter what, you could only sign 25 in a year...it is good to know that if there are special circumstances that the number can go over a little...

you had me interested until that last bit. Seems we have had a QB here recently that came in not highly touted as he didn't throw the ball much in HS. Then went on to set all the records here.

At this point I'm going to say that Tommy will sign at least 6 and maybe as many as 8-9. I expect 2-4 to be mid year signees. Definitely going to be a couple of JC OL, at least a couple of JC DB's, probably two JC LB's, and there could be 1-2 juco d-lineman signed. If the right one is available, Tommy may sign a Juco WR, if he is a speed guy. Tommy wants to add some immediate speed at WR to compliment Duke. Plus our depth has been somewhat hit by Ryan Scott graduating, Pratcher may or may not get another year back, Michael Grandberry moving to cornerback, Alton Starr moving to safety, Carlton Robinzine, Dave Thomas III, and Antonio McCoy all being injured. Furthermore, Antonio may never be able to play again. He had total recronstructive surgery, all ligaments and tendons were torn, luckily the arteries and blood vessels weren't or he might have had a permanent limp.
and even if Robinzine and Thomas do make it all the way back, they will most likely never be as effective as they could have been - like Pratcher...will be interesting to see the offseason progress...am most interested in seeing Ryan Williams be able to fully get into strength and conditioning and hopefully pick up where he left off at the end of his freshman year...

Thomas should be fine. His injury was not that debillitating. Who knows about Robinzine. While not as bad as originally thought, it was not just a nick.

LOL, Edward...not bad, not bad at all....and me with all my polo clothes at home....dang it!! Nice use of alliteration AND rhyming in the same sentence if I have my grammatical terminology correct.

On a serious note, I really don't think Pete Cordelli has or will have any influence on where Cannon goes to school from what I understand. Now he may have given opinions to the UM coaching staff or to Tuohy who passed them on to the UM coaching staff and they decided to go after him harder because of that opinion....but I don't think Pete has a true "direct" influence on the kid.

Yea, just poking a little fun. But directly or indirectly, Cordelli did have some influence on the process, let's just leave it at that.

However, I don't see it as a big deal either way. Dallas Walker is a good prospect and if he doesn't pan out at QB, he would make a quality TE prospect. If Cannon doesn't make it at QB, he doesn't have the size, speed, or athleticism to play D-1 at any other position. However, I have seen Cannon play a couple of times and he looks to be a quality QB prospect. So I definitly won't slam his skills as a QB. Not the typical size but a good arm, decent mobility and has improved his accuracy big time in the last year.
Heard Lapedis make a comment late in his show today that he and Tommy had a private conversation yesterday about his years recruiting. Lapedis said something like Tommy told him about some things that he was not expecting. Did not elaborate further, or even say whether the unexpected things were good or bad, but maybe Tommy has a recruiting surprise or two for us this year.
i saw "smith" ....

who called me... ?
Do we really want him? After his performance against S. Panola I don't see him as a big time player.

I would like to have him for one reason only - for Fred to donate a new stadium.
I'd be surprised if Tommy still wanted Smith. After he committed and then decommitted. Either you're for us or against us.

I don't think you should hold the South Panola game against him. For one it is South Panola. They haven't lost a game in 4 years. Secondly OB had a couple of 10th graders playing on the Oline filling in for the injured starters. They couldn't block. He was drilled several times. Cannon also made several throws that could have been TDs but were dropped by the receivers.

Found this out recently Cannon's Brother Arthur Smith played College ball at North Carolina. He was lineman. I believe he was 6'4 275.

Some of you heard about the big lick Cannon took last week here is the video clip from the SP Tiger Site. It's about midway through the clip. It was delivered from the #1 linebacker in the country.

One would think we'd get something out of it.....
