OUTSTANDING ! ! ! !
I went to my first Cardinal game in STL in 1983.......this has been a long time coming. I went to game 3 and 4 in 2004 and watched the Red Sox finish the sweep.....this is sweet!
Go Cards! It was cool to see some ex-Redbirds earn their rings.

Jeannie Zelasco is incredibly bad. "So, Mr. Owner, tell these fans again that St.Louis is the World Champions...how does it feel..."

I remember Cardinal bad base running in game three in 2004 but otherwise they were simply routed by Boston.

I never remember a team so consistently making mistakes as to actually cost them the whole thing, or at least a 3-2 Detroit lead. From bad base running taking runners out of scoring position (tonight's gaffe) to the astounding pitcher throwing errors in every game to the outfield slips and poor positioning and even finishing up with Leyland's inexplicable pinch runner for the get to within one run baserunner instead of the tying run. Even Pudge Rodriguez not taking a strike with a 2-0 count and being the tying run and then grounding out on a checked swing.

Duncan made two gaffes tonight, one cost a run, the other cost nothing. Other than that the Cards played solid if not spectacular baseball and were able to take advantage of a complete collapse in fundamentals by Detroit, who must be wondering how they are not heading home with a 3-2 lead.

St.Louis had a mediocre record this year but this was no underdog heroic effort. Cards have been in the playoffs 6 of the past 7 years and played in a weak division that once they got a decent lead in they coasted. I do not think the 7 game losing streak coinciding with Houston's 7 game winning streak was expected, but other than the record in an injury plagued weak division year, the Cardinals were on par with all the good teams.

Yankees notwithstanding.

My kids throw to the bases better than Detroit pitchers.

Amazing.

Good for the ex-Memphians.
I like it for a couple of reasons.

First, I have always been a Cardinal baseball fan. It's good to see them persevere in a tough season and win their 10th World Series. That is second only to the NY Yankees.

Second, it is sweet to see the big money teams like the Yankees, Mets, and White Sox get left out totally or whipped early in the playoffs. You know FOX wanted at least ONE NY team in the series just for the ratings!

Did Detroit choke? A 4-1 series seems to indicate St. Louis did what they had to do. Yep, the Tigers sure made a LOT of strange errors. But what really killed them was their absolute lack of hitting in the first 6 batters except Casey.

Ecstein was the easy choice for MVP. Well deserved.

no doubt. how many times did she say that to either Jocketty, Larussa or the owner??

that trick needed a muzzle.

exactly. errors are part of baseball. The Cards gave up some unearned runs as well, just not as many as Detroit--8! But Detroit had 8 errors to the Cardinals 4. The Cards just capitalized on their mistakes, like good teams do. Detroit didn't do that as well.

What it really came down to, other than Detroits lack of clutch hitting, was the youthful inexperience of Detroit's fireballers not being able to harness their stuff well enough. For the most part, the Cards' young pitchers kept their composure. Now why Weaver even gave Casey a ball anywhere near hittable with first base open last night I have no idea.

I have criticized some of LaRussa's post season moves in the past, but he pulled the right strings this year. I was very critical of Jocketty's inabilty to sign any starting pitching talent in the offseason last year. Well, that almost cost the Cards a spot in the playoffs. But the gamble on Weaver really payed off. Maybe Duncan is the guy who can finally get Weaver back on track. His intrinsic pitching stats the past 2-3 years show the potential he has. That same potential that he showed in the postseason.

But what is really amazing is the list of castoffs who were important to winning the series. Weaver. PWilson. Belliard. Miles. Looper. even Eckstein really as the Angles let him go prior to last year.

Then add the key players from the Cardinals much maligned farm system. Pujols. Molina. Duncan. Johnson. Kinney. Reyes. Thompson. Taguchi. Looper (again--originally a Cardinal prospect). Wainwright (although the only one on this list not drafted/originally signed by the Cards).

LaRussa and Jockety earned their paychecks on this one. 04-cheers

What a wonderful day to be a Cardinal fan. The magic is still there. I've had the pleasure of watching Musial, Slaughter, Marion,Kurowski, Gibson, the Polish Falcons(Repulski, Jablonski and Bilko), Slaughter, Walker, Brock, Schoendienst,Moore, Boyer and many others but this year's team is just as exciting. Wherever he is, Harry Caray must be smiling. As a boy, I remember that Harry idolized Stan Musial.
What this shows that no matter what a team looks like on paper or what experts predict the game is won or lost on the field.
There is another board for this garbage, isn't there?

Memphis STL cards country, the thread should stay
The thread should only stay if every non Tiger related thread stays.

I really don't care, and I am being sarcastic, but it never fails to amaze me the double standard.

I bety a Grizzlies post would get moved. Memphis is Grizzlies country, right?

Actually it isn't. I would wager there are more Cardinal fans than grizzle fans in Memphis. ;-)
I'd rather see Grizz and Cards threads than the OM and UT threads.
