Marvin Williams is ranked as the 6th best player in Class of 2004 by Rivalshoops. Being likely that the Dwight Howard, Al Jefferson, Josh Smith, etc. will probably skip college altogether, it is probable that Marvin will be one of the top 5 players coming out of the highschool ranks.

Marvin is a 6-foot-8, 215 pound power forward from Bremerton, Washington. The three schools in contention for his services appear to be UNC, Washington, and Arizona.

Roy has been recruiting Marvin for awhile, and Marvin has some family in North Carolina. He will be visiting Chapel Hill sometime in the next two weeks.

Keep an eye on him, he is a VERY good one.

The big man has arrived in Chapel Hill. Keep an eye on this over the next few days as it could get quite interesting. :D 04-drinky
BTW, Michael Jordan is in town. His son (maybe both) are attending the Carolina basketball camp. I wouldn't be surprised if Roy happens to introduce Marvin to Michael.

Also, one of my friends is at the Carolina hoops camp this week. My friend has attended the camp for a long time, so anyways: He said that Roy Williams eats meals with the campers in the cafeteria, and overall he has made himself very visible throughout the week. Also said that the players are in a very good mood and seem very happy. All is well on The Hill again.
That sounds very encouraging. I'll keep my fingers crossed.

In the meantime, what the heck happened to this place? Someone rearrange the furniture?
We plugged eveything into a different socket..........and this happened!
It sounds as if the visit went very well. Marvin will make his decision soon, stay tuned.
It appears that Marvin Williams has given a soft verbal to Roy and his staff. However, the decision is not yet official. I presume that he will play in his tournament this weekend, go home, talk over the visits with his family and his coach, and then make his decision to Carolina official.

I will save the deluge of emoticons for our blue-chip beast once he makes it official.
I've been gone for a while, and I just got back into town today. It looks as if Marvin Williams will make his decision tomorrow. Keep your fingers crossed, he would be a great one!
Someone please explain why we need Williams at 6'8" and 215 more than we need a center at say 6'10" and 260? He's a 3 or 4 and that would leave May playing center another year. If he gets hurt, we're in the same boat as last year. We have more people at the 3 and 4 than at the 5. The other problem is that May (and his dad) want him to play the four more in preparation for pro ball. If there's no center on the horizon to take the pressure off of him, wouldn't he be more likely to leave early so as not to risk anotoher injury?

Perhaps Grant is recovering more quickly than I thought and is showing starting potential. I just don't see that, however.
While Marvin isn't a true center, he and Sean would form a formidable (sp?) frontcourt. Marvin is unanimously ranked as a top 10 player in the class, and he has the body to get rebounds and score inside.

The recruiting scenarios with Brian, Ra'Sean, and JR will become clearer depending on what goes down tomorrow.
First part of the puzzle in place. Good job Roy. 04-rock
Well, he''s a Tar Heel now. If Coach Williams wanted him, that's good enough for me. I'm certainly not qualified to question his judgement. A talented player is always a good thing.

Welcome, Marvin!!!!!!!
Great to have the big man aboard. From the article at IC, it looks like Roy knows exactly what he is doing when it comes to recruiting. From what I have read, Rick correct me if this sounds off the mark, Marvin Williams has the body and plays like Shelden Williams. Huge pickup, it will be interesting to see in which direction Roy goes to use the final scholarship. Other fans be scared, the future of UNC hoops= 03-razz :D 04-drinky 04-bow 04-rock :saber: :D
