Quote:Simply put, Rose may be the most intimidatingly quick floor general to grace the hardwood in years. Even big-time players defer to Rose's first step and if they don't, embarrassment typically follows.

That includes Mayo, who attempted to defend Rose off the dribble in Las Vegas during one of the summer's best matchups. Rose handles the ball very well but doesn't even need that tight dribbling to beat his defender, which he does without deception and, increasingly, without remorse.

Rose had borne criticism for several years that he lacked the mythical killer instinct, but this summer he dispelled whatever doubt lingered about his willingness to carry a team and punish the opposition. His job now is to improve his erratic, behind-the-ear jump shot.

Rose appears almost untouchable, as he ranks as the only potential superstar at his position. There are better shooters, better scorers and better passers, but only Rose brings an element of fear to each matchup. Nick Calathes boasts excellent size and is a tremendously talented passer, while Flynn might be the second-quickest player at the position.
