Quote:On a must-see day at the Reebok Big Time, O.J. Mayo had one outstanding game and squeaked out a win over the Mean Streets Express on a controversial foul call. But it was the Mean Streets Express guard combo of Eric Gordon and Derrick Rose who were the standout players of the day with two terrific performances.

Eric Gordon has been unguardable. After a lay up by Gordon with eight seconds left in the game to put Mean Street Express up by three, Mayo raced down the court and drained a three-pointer with 2.9 seconds left as the referee made a mystery foul call. Mayo canned the free throw to gain the win and finish off a 26 point, 4 rebound, 6 assist and zero turnover performance.

Against the 2-3 zone of the Mean Street Express, Mayo sank 7 of 8 three-pointers and went 9 of 16 from the field.

Rose and Gordon were also impressive as the Mean Street Express controlled the game until the very end. Relying heavily on his right to left crossover, Rose spent much of the first half driving by Mayo on the dribble and either scoring, drawing fouls or finding shooters.

Mayo wisely backed off of Rose during the latter part of the second half, exposing Rose's questionable outside jumper. Rose did go 0 for 5 from behind the stripe, but on the game, he put up a triple/double of 21 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists to 4 turnovers.

In the second half, instead of playing off Rose, the D1 Greyhounds attacked him with the double team as soon as he crossed half court. Showing the maturity of a first class point guard, Rose passed the ball out of the double team with poise and confidence.

As good as Mayo and Rose were in this contest, Gordon was every bit as good with his efficient and also explosive play. Unstoppable in the open court, Gordon scored 28 points on 10 of 15 shooting, including 2 of 4 from the arc. He also had 8 rebounds and 2 assists to 2 turnovers.
The more these two play together, the more likely Rose joins Gordan at Illinois, IMO.

Great point, we just have to wait and see how things shake out.

You never know what'll happen in a kids recruitment on the next day. ;-)
From Scout.com:
Quote:MAYO V. ROSE ACTUALLY MATCHES THE HYPE

Our apologies for the delay in getting to our coverage of the highly anticipated O.J. Mayo and Derrick Rose battle. After seeming like it would never actually come to fruition, the two highly regarded guards locked horns on Sunday morning and it was every bit as exciting as people had hoped it would be.

Mr. Mayo was dialed in from downtown all game long and playing efficiently with the ball, Rose was playing more aggressive than usual and both guys -- along with Illinois commitment Eric Gordon -- were making plays all over the court. Mayo may have had the last laugh with his miraculous four point play to win the game with just under three seconds to go, but Rose showed exactly why people drool over what he could do down the road.

With the three perceived frontrunners in his recruitment -- Illinois, Kansas, Memphis -- all represented by their head coaches and at least one assistant, Rose looked like a pro.

Site wouldn't let me post the entire article for some reason.
parrish- said memphis(rose depending) is in the works of a home and home with USC in the same season. the reason is neither player is excepted to stay more then one year
good find.......

Parrish coming through for the "home" team.

Not surprised by this in the least. Good move by Coach Cal.
that would be crazy if it happened, but great for our program.....exposure for something like this would be through the roof...
Gonzaga
Tennessee
@Ole Miss
@Cincinnati
Arizona
@Kentucky
@Southern Cal
Southern Cal

some out of conference schedule that would be.....could still have Kansas State and/or Pepperdine (Huggins and Walberg)...a lot of West Coast exposure for the program as well...
Is Kentucky set in stone?
I don't think so, but even without Kentucky, I could see K-State or Pepperdine on the schedule and even without those two, it would still be pretty stout.....CUSA will be improved after this season as well - a lot of deep and big recruiting classes will play for CUSA teams this year.....still no team outside of Memphis recruiting Top 100 players, but a lot of CUSA teams are recruiting good numbers and depth.....should be interesting in the next few seasons for the Tigers.....
Can we get a rematch with UCLA?

That would be great too.

I would like to see us play these teams in the next couple of years.

UCLA
USC -if Rose signs
Kentucky
Kansas
UNC
Florida
Michgan State
Illinois- because they are the best team in the universe and no one should ever want to go to Memphis.

We were going to play UCLA until they showed up in the Maui classic.
I wouldn't mind seeing a "Cal vs Huggins" rivalry renewal either.

don't the both of those guys play the same position.. if so, i don't see them gelling @ the same school... they'll both want to shine for the 1 & done year.
