It seems pretty well established that Anthony Randolph and Derrick Rose remain at the top of the Tiger wish list, but other players have been and still continue to be mentioned in connection with the Tigers. Here are some notes on their status at this point:

1. PG Maurice Miller, Memphis, TN (Raleigh-Egypt). No. 137 in the Rivals rankings. His recruiting list (according to Rivals) has Memphis, Georgia Tech, Illinois, and Tennessee all with "High" interest. His standing with the Tigers appears to hinge on what happens with Derrick Rose. I think he would be a great Tiger. Is it possible he could go to prep school, or even walk on to become a Tiger? I don't know.

2. SF Billy White, Henderson, NV (Green Valley). His name is often linked to the Tigers, and he's very highly regarded by the recruiting analysts (no. 55 in the Rivals rankings). According to Rivals, Memphis is his top choice; he has "High" interest in the Tigers and no others. Whether the Tigers have ever offered him a scholarship is the question. Academics and motivation have sometimes been mentioned as concerns.

3. PF Tracy Smith, Detroit, MI (Durham, NC Mt. Zion Christian Academy). Powerful inside player who could also play center. No. 96 in the Rivals rankings. Has only been recently mentioned in connection with the Tigers. His Rivals recruiting list: Memphis, NC State, Oklahoma State. Could be someone of interest if Anthony Randolph doesn't commit.

4. SF Jamine "Greedy" Peterson, Brooklyn, NY (Fitchburg, MA Notre Dame Prep). No. 102 in the Rivals rankings. High-scoring forward who can get to the rim and get his own shot. A player who has similar characteristics to Tiger commit Jeff Robinson, Jr. The level of interest the Tigers have in him is unclear. Memphis is not on his current Rivals favorites list, which has Arkansas, Clemson, Iowa State, UMass, Rutgers and St. John's.

5. PF Chris Barnes, College Park, GA (Riverdale). No. 111 in the Rivals rankings. Has been playing well in the summer competitions. Getting tons of rebounds. Early on the Tigers seemed to have some interest, but they don't appear to be as involved right now. But the Tigers are still on his list, along with numerous ACC and SEC schools.

6. SF Devin Ebanks, Queens, NY (The Patterson School). Apparently will reclassify to the Class of 2008, and play for Coach Chris Chaney at The Patterson School. Has been mentioned in connection with the Tigers in the past, but not much in recent months. Had a few minor off-court problems in NYC. Has been playing very well on the AAU circuit, and has attracted the interest of a lot of top programs. Very talented. His current Rivals list has Connecticut, Florida, Louisville, Miami (Fla.), St. John's, Virginia Tech, and Rutgers. It's certainly possible the Tigers could become involved again, but they don't seem to be currently. And now that he is supposedly reclassifying, this is a down-the-road situation.

Considering the uncertainly surrounding the top ten players in the Class of 2007 at the present time, it's nice to know that the Tigers have a number of good options beyond the top-ten players.

I think we will be heavily in the mix for 2008. I know we have been recruiting this guys for a long time and the choice of prep school potentially bodes well.
Realistically how many more players can we sign? And how long should we wait on Rose and Randolph before we push the panic button and go after the best available.

I think we wait, or more to the point, actively recruit Rose until he commits somewhere. Randolph, maybe we give up on at some point. But I'll continue Coach Cal and the staff. They know what they are doing.
He's going to continue to pursue Rose and Randolph hard I would think. I think it's very likely Dozier or Dorsey will go pro after next season. One of our big men will step up and have a huge season. If one doesn't, we may not be a top 25 team... and I just don't see that happening.
I can't imagine Coach Cal would ever give up on a player as talented as Anthony Randolph. Until either Rose or Randolph commit or sign elsewhere, you keep recruiting players of that caliber hard. These are the type of players that can make us go from a very good team to one with aspirations of winning it all.

I don't know any more than the next guy. If we sign all that we have committed so far and nobody leaves early we would have 13 on scholarship. Again, if there is somebody talented enough, go ahead and get them and let things work out. If not, my guess is he may go after one more player like a Tracy Smith, Mo Miller or Billy White type at that point, but he won't give up the chase for a difference maker.
