I'm thinking about going to NYC for my birthday. Actually a couple of days after my birthday. I can get a really good airline rate at the moment traveling during the week versus the weekend.

I've never been before and need some advice on the part of town where I should stay. I plan to catch one Yankee game but I know not to stay in that area. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks!!
Ive only been once and we stayed in central Manhattan somewhere between Times Square and Central Park. I think it was around 34th but im not at all sure but it seemed like we were in the middle of everything.
So staying in Central Manhattan would probably be a good thing if I can find something under $500 a night. lmfao

Try the Algonquin hotel. Very nice.

Go to a DAY game at Yankee Stadium. You will NOT find a cab outside the stadium after the game (at night, anyway when I was there). Make sure you know exactly where to get on/off the subway.

FYI... 34th is not between Times Square and Central Park.

Try a place just south of Central Park, say along 57th or near Columbus Circle.

The best thing is just get a decent hotel room anywhere you can. You can get to wherever you want to go fairly easy.
Just got back from NYC. stayed at the Hampton next to MSG. less than 300 a night. go to Lastminutedeals.com can get a great deal on hotel rooms and flight. go to Carmine's on w 44th. lots of food, decent price. go have a drink at the top of the Marriott Marquis, it rotates and gives you the entire view of the city.
Carmine's is a must but remember everything is served "family style" so if you are going by yourself hopefully you will have a frig and microwave in your hotel room because you will need it. If you like eggplant their eggplant parmigiana is to die for. Also, they stay booked up alot so it doesn't hurt to call ahead and make a reservation (especially if it's for dinner). A trip to N.Y.C. is not complete without at least one visit to Carmine's. ;-)

Well, thanks for all of the help but it looks like the week I wanted to go, I won't be able to get off work since we will be in board prep mode. <sigh>

Oh well, I will keep all of this info and use it next year because I will go to NYC next summer for sure. I'll just get a lot of planning done ahead of time.
Maybe next year Sunshine and I will go with you....I love N.Y. !!

I might be up for a trip to NYC. Haven't been in a while.
maybe a girls trip to N.Y.C. ? I know the perfect place we can stay right in the middle of Times Square. They are all suites so we can all share the rooms....Sunshine knows....ask her . We piled about 10 in that suite last time we were there. Only problem is that we have to plan way ahead of time to get a room.
I would highly recommend this place and if you book it early you can get some pretty good rate specials. It is located on the Upper West Side around 79th St. and is close to a lot of neat stuff. We couldn't beat the price for location, service and cleanliness.

Ok, I just looked over the menu for carmines. Wow is all I have to say. It sounds delicious.
A girls' trip would be great. The only thing we have to make sure we do...well I have to do..the rest of you don't is go to a Yankees game. I can go drool at Jeter all by myself.

I have the schedule for next year's board meetings so I will look into it and see the availability. The only thing is...I will need to wait and see what the Yankees schedule is.

I think I could handle going to a yankee's game, even though I will be prob. rooting against them. ;-) But it would be fun though.
