Especially since Harrah's IT operations are HERE. I know that around half of Hilton's ops are here as well (the Promus legacy), but not sure if part of the IT ops for the other half are also here?

It shows the "promus" we have in the tech industry.
The vast majority of Hilton's IT is based here, some in Dallas, Beverly Hills and New Jersey (New Jersey is for disaster recovery when 'the big one' hits here). As a member of the IT department for Hilton it is pretty neat seeing that we are so high on the list

What I'm extrapolating from your post is that Memphis' IT operations covers more than just the former Promus properties (Embassy, Hampton, Homewood) but also the original Hilton properties as well? That's awesome to hear. This is a private company, no? I wonder how high up Memphis execs are on the totem pole. I hear a Memphis exec is next in line at ServiceMaster, and Memphis execs are at the head of Regions, Saks, and Gaylord.

Any theory on why no former employees of HI or Promus (that may not have stayed through to Hilton) have started up their own Memphis-based hotel company? It happens in other industries and other cities. There seemed to be such a big base of talent and knowledge.
After Hilton aquired Promus, they moved Hilton IT from Las Vegas to Memphis. There were 2 different areas for IT the Hilton side and the Promus side and while we all worked for the same company, we were still split into 'full' (Hilton brands) and 'limited' (Promus brands) service. A couple of years ago everything was merged together so now everyone works more like a cohesive unit rather than having everything split.

As far as no former employee's starting a hotel co. To be honest, we have a VERY low turnover rate and once most people have been there for over 5 years tend to stay with the company. It is very rare for someone to quit or even be fired (at least in the IT area)

I know of one way you can do it.

Thanks for the insight. I wonder if there are any folks around Memphis interested in creating a Memphis-based brand again? Maybe refugees from the HI years? Certainly there have to be people around with experience given how we've been the base for HI, Promus (and now Hilton) as well as Harrah's.
