Unfortunately, Libertyland could never be mistaken for a world-class amusement park.
Wouldn't it be great if Six Flags, Disney or somebody would bring a major amusement park to the area.

Paramount doesn't have one within 7 hours, do they? I like the one here in Charlotte.

What's it called?
There's a park in the Bay Area called Great America -- I think it's a Paramount park.
yep... just googled it...
Paramount's Great America
OK, I see it...

Aren't there big plans by one of the casinos to build a huge amusement park in Tunica?

Am I seeing this correctly?

The Grand said they were going to build a 5-acre indoor/outdoor water park. I haven't heard another thing about it since the annoucement.
There was news about a major amusement park in DeSoto County. It was some guy from Arkansas and nothing ever came of it.

Where could a good amusement park be built in this area?

You could stick it in Fayette or Tipton County just off of I-40. Or you could put it in northeast Shelby County along the I-269 corridor.

Yeah, that would probably work. The location of Libertyland was just awful. There was no room to make it decent over there and it really only could compete with a small town's carnival or fair.

The only amusement park I have been to in Arkansas was in Hot Springs and it sucked, so maybe it is a good thing that nothing came of that.

That's exactly where I was thinking. It's not like those things are usually within the city, most are stuck out somewhere like that.

Honestly though, I don't think Tipton County would go for it. Fayette I am not sure of but I doubt Tipton would want to do it out there.

Land is going for around $3500 an acre in south Fayette County.
1,000 acres at $3,500 per acre = $3,500,000
5,000 acres at $3,500 per acre = $17,500,000
10,000 acres at $3,500 per acre = $35,000,000
30,000 acres at $3,500 per acre = $105,000,000
Walt Disney World is 30,000 acres, or over 40 sq miles.
If I were in charge of some local county around here, I'd offer a 1-for-1 deal on land -- for every acre purchased I'd match an acre.
I'd also make sure a controlled access road with interstate connections would be built to the site.
Done right, a major amusement park will bring other amusement facilities as well as resorts.
This would bring in a windfall of tax revenues to the local economy. Imagine 1.5% of all sales coming back to the county. (Shelby gets 2.25%, but I don't know what other near-by counties get)
$100,000,000 in revenue at 1.5% = $1,500,000
$500,000,000 in revenue at 1.5% = $7,500,000
$1,000,000,000 in revenue at 1.5% = $15,000,000
Resorts and taxis bring in higher-rate hospitality taxes.
Orlando, the top tourist destination in the world, brings in 45M visitor annually.
New York brings in 33M annually.
Tunica brings in 17M annually and Memphis brings in 8M annually. Consider that some of the 17M and 8M are the same visitors (they visit both Tunica and Memphis) the Memphis area already has at least 20M visitors annually.
That's a great base of existing tourists to offer an amusement park.
Not to mention that Memphis is less than a day's drive from 90% of the US population and we have an airport with 4 runways that can accomodate a lot of passenger traffic.
