Are the Shotwell Smokers connected to anyone on this board?

I saw in the paper Saturday where they won the "Best Mustard Sauce" at MIM BBQ Fest.

I was just wondering if they are a particular group that won the Ribs contest at the Spring Game this year.

If so, congratulations. If not, oh well... ;-)
Can we not discuss BBQ until at least Wednesday? My liver is killing me.

I heard that...I don't know why I didn't think to take off the Monday afterwards. I just want to put my head down on the desk today.

I shouldn't complain, since my husband (the actual team member) was down there every single day last week, including yesterday for cleanup, AND had to be at work this morning at 4 am... 03-yawn :snore:

I'm detoxing myself all week....until Memorial Day starts early for me on Friday, of course.

Barbecue To Take Center Stage Nov. 10-11 (same day as UCF DAMNIT)

March 20, 2006

Jonesboro -- Football and barbeque. That?s what?s on the menu Nov. 10-11 when Arkansas State University?s Indian Club hosts one of the qualifying cookouts for the Memphis in May World Championship Barbeque Cooking Contest in conjunction with the Indians? football home game with Middle Tennessee.

The winner of the event will have the entry fee paid to enter the World Championship in Memphis. Also, winners will receive awards during the football game. The contest is called the Jazz in Jonesboro MidSouth Barbeque Championship.

The qualifying round, which draws serious grillers from all over the country, will be held at Indian Stadium on Friday and continue through Saturday prior to the football game which pits ASU against Sun Belt Conference foe Middle Tennessee. It will also be Senior Day, honoring seniors on the Indian football team.

?This is going to be a huge, huge event which will draw thousands of people to the ASU campus and to watch the Indians play Middle Tennessee,? said Kent Keith of Little Rock who initiated the event along with Brian Morris, ASU Assistant Athletic Director for Development and Indian Club Director. ?This is going to be a great opportunity to showcase our football team as well as the university and community. Also, it will be a wonderful stage for one of the premier events in the nation in the Memphis in May cooking contest.?

Also on the schedule that weekend is the annual Lit?l Bita Christmas at the Convocation Center, which should add to a full weekend of activities.

?In an ongoing effort to increase the excitement and atmosphere surrounding our athletic contests, the Indian Club is excited to serve as host for the Jazz in Jonesboro MidSouth Barbeque Championship this year,? said Morris. ?We believe that the interest and fun that accompanies an event like this will spill over into Indian Stadium and energize our fans and our football team on game day.?

Keith also hopes to secure top-notch entertainment for the event with area bands performing Friday and Saturday. Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee has issued a proclamation regarding the event and the Memphis Barbeque Association has sanctioned the cook-off as part of Memphis in May?s contest. Keith also said that he has already secured numerous entries to the cook-off.

?We are hoping to find sponsors who will pitch in to make this event successful and become an annual affair,? continued Keith. ?In November, this is the only qualifying contest in this area and certainly in Northeast Arkansas, so it will receive a lot of attention as well as provide a chance for everyone to watch a great football game. We already have a couple of sponsors who are extremely excited about becoming involved and look forward to having others on board.?

The barbecue cooking contest, which receives national media attention, has become an international event over the years as part of the Memphis in May International Festival. Contestants bring grills from all over the world to Tom Lee Park on the Mississippi River to compete for over $60,000 in prizes for tasty barbecue.

In addition, each year top musical entertainment hits the stage. To become a sponsor of the Jazz in Jonesboro MidSouth Barbeque Championship, contact Kent Keith at 501-351-0808 or write 121 El Dorado, Little Rock, AR 72212.
