Yeah, soccer or hockey. Hockey players do a lot of skating up and down the ice, plus they take and give a ton of hits so it takes quite a bit out of you.
triathelon anybody?

isn't round a shape?
Golf anyone? Come on, look at John Daly and tell me he isn't the ultimate Athlete

Agreed. They run for a couple of hours non-stop.
I'm going with soccer.

But then check out some of those long distance swimmers. That takes alot of endurance to swim lap after lap.

Too skinny. I'll go for the weight lifters or football players
My vote would for the poker players or the bowlers.
What about shuffleboard players.

On a carnal note, some people may say that women's volleyball players are in the best shape. ;-)
I say BS on soccer. Not saying they are not in shape but they are not "running for 90 minutes straight". They play an area a lot of the time while jogging around and then they will have to sprint for a distance, kick the ball, and then back to jogging. Now I expect the soccer mafia to get me ;-)

triatheletes and boxers would be mine.

Shows how little you know about soccer. They dont run much more than basketball or football. They have 'zones' to play in and when something is going on in their zone they run, jump, do whatever but when its not they just kinda of gradually wonder up and down the field.

my bad on the double post
What about Tennis players? They move all sorts of ways and on ESPN I heard them say that in any given match that a Tennis player will run several miles back and forth.

Yet the body of Pete "the pube" Sampras is not one I aspire to have.

no worries. I am just kind of shocked I was right about something soccer related. Speaking of.

Top flight boxers are in the best shape. They condition and use their entire body. Throwing and taking punches for up to twelve rounds is remarkable.

To take it a step further...the extreme fighters may even have it harder, when you add kicks.

That shows how little you know about soccer because the play stops being limited to "zones" around age 12. In a real, competitive, soccer game the players are constantly running up and down a field that is 100-120 yards in length. They are making crossover runs, overlap runs, and outside midfielders are literally running from goaline to goaline. Sometimes they are jogging, only to break into a sprint, to go back to jogging, and then break into a sprint again; but for the most part they are moving in some way the entire game...and the game doesn't stop.

I don't know if soccer players are in the best shape of ALL athletes, but to say they don't run much more than basketball or football players...both sports which have timeout after timeout, stop after stop...is just plain nuts.
