Drew hits for the cycle as the Noles down Wake

Stephen Drew singled in the third, doubled in the fifth, homered in the seventh, and tripled in the eighth to become the first Seminole to hit for the cycle since Chris Smith did it against St Joseph's on March 7th, 2000 in an 11-10 win over the Wake Forest Demon Deacons on Thursday afternoon. WFU scored ten runs in the final two innings and had the winning run at the plate before a fly ball to center field ended the game.
Rhett James (8-2) earned the win going seven innings before running out of gas in the eighth when he gave up five runs. For the game, James threw 7.2 innings and gave up five runs on nine hits while walking just one batter and striking out three. Hunter Davis walked a batter after James left before getting pulled in favor of Kevin Lynch who ended the inning with one pitch. Lynch also played left field and came back to the mound to finish the game for the Noles.
Aaron Cheesman had a career-high four hits in the game with two singles and two doubles.
After a scoreless first inning, the Seminoles took the lead in the top of the second inning when Aaron Cheesman doubled and scored on a single to right by Ryne Malone. After Malone stole second, Matt Sauls brought him home with a basehit to centerfield that made it 2-0.
FSU made it 3-0 in the third inning when Dennis Anderson singled, went to second on a single by Drew, and scored an unearned run after a single by Eddy Martinez-Esteve, when the Wake Forest center fielder isplayed the ball.
Drew led off with top of the fifth inning with his eleventh double of the season, and went to third on an infield single by Martinez-Esteve. After another infield single by Cheesman that scored Drew, Martinez-Esteve came home on a sacrifice fly by Malone that made it 5-0.
Drew made it 6-0 in the seventh with his thirteenth homerun of the season and third hit of the day.
The cycle was completed in the eighth inning when Drew nailed a two-run triple off the wall in right-center. Drew then scored on a double to left-center by Martinez-Esteve.
The Demon Deacons put five runs on the board in the bottom of the inning on a two-run single by third baseman Matt Antonelli, and a three-run homerun by right fielder Steve LeFaivre.
Cheesman led off the ninth inning for FSU with his second double and career-high fourth hit of the game. He then went to third on a single by Malone, before scoring on a single by Sauls. Shane Robinson brought home Malone with a fielder's choice that made it 11-5.
Wake Forest Center fielder Matt Miller made it 11-6 with a solo homerun off of Chambliss in the bottom of the ninth before the Deacons loaded the bases without a hit on an error by Anderson, a hit batter, and another error by Drew. Lynch was then brought back from left field and struck out the next batter for the second out before giving up a grand slam to LeFaivre that brought Wake to within one run of tying the game, before recording the final out on a fly ball.
With the win, Florida State improved to 35-19 and 14-8 in the ACC while the Demon Deacons fell to 17-30 and 4-18 in conference play. Game two of the series is scheduled for Friday at 1:30 pm with Eddie Cannon (7-5, 3.77 ERA) on the hill for the Seminoles against Kyle Young (4-5, 6.36 ERA) for WFU.
