TALLAHASSEE - Florida State senior Jessica van der Linden was named the winner of the 2004 Honda Award for softball, given to the top player in the country. Van der Linden led FSU to the College World Series, where she was recognized as the USA Softball National Player of the Year.
Van der Linden joins 11 other Honda Award winners this school year as finalists for the Honda-Broderick Award, given to the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year.
Van der Linden hit .401, becoming the first FSU softball player to eclipse the .400 mark twice, and set a school single- season record for RBIs (55). As a pitcher, she recorded a school single-season record for strikeouts (387).
