Just wondering if any of you had heard anything about or seen any of the new recruits for next year for our basketball team. This is my first time posting, but I have followed the program for a few years now, and love the way Ingle has Kennesaw headed...

Let me know if you have heard anything, and I will try to find out some info as well. If you have heard anything about the other school's signees I would be very interested as well.
Welcome to the board.

As far as signees, I have no idea. Trying to keep this place lively during the offseason is tough work. We could talk about Softball but then again they don't have the tournament to look forward to so who cares. lol
Thanks Nick - I am pretty sure they were looking at a kid from Kentucky...6'7" bruiser. I think that would probably help us out. That is about all I know. One thing Ingle can do is recruit, and the closer he gets to getting rid of the no NCAA tournament grace period, the better his recruits will become. I expect Kennesaw that the players that Kennesaw brings in this year will be very quality.
i havent heard anything either...though i did see some basketball players in the gym that looked like possible recruits. they were point guards and they looked good. Zach berry prob wont start next year if we bring one of those two guys i saw in.

anyway we should be announcing our schedule pretty soon. i know we play unlv..but thats the only big name i know were playing.

welcome to the board kennesawbasketball. see if u can get some other ppl on here
umm, i want to say Mississippi St or some SEC school (Auburn?) **** I dunno but there is one SEC school. UGA is a no go cause of the scare late last season I'm sure.
Zach Berry is going to be a very solid player for Kennesaw. I dont know about him starting next year...he is still only a sophomore, but he is as dependable as they come at PG. Ingle is going to keep bringing in better and better recruits so the current players are going to have to keep stepping up their game ... we definitely have some players right now that can take their game to a different level..hopefully this offseason they will put in the time necessary to do that.

Owls Ink Texas Tech Transfer
Former Red Raider Jay Mitchell comes to Kennesaw State

May 4, 2007

KENNESAW, Ga. - Head Coach Tony Ingle and the Kennesaw State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics announced that Jay Mitchell will join the Owls basketball program after transferring from Texas Tech.

"We are excited about having Jay in our program," said Ingle. "It says a lot about our program that a young man would want to transfer from Texas Tech to Kennesaw State. It really shows our program is moving in the right direction."

The 6-foot-8-inch, 235-pound forward played one season under Bobby Knight at Texas Tech before transferring to Kennesaw State. Last season, Mitchell played in 11 games for the Red Raiders, shooting 60 percent from the field.

Prior to Texas Tech, Mitchell played a season at Gulf Coast Community College where he enjoyed a solid rookie season. Mitchell shot 58 percent from the floor while averaging 13 points, 10 rebounds and four assists per game.

Mitchell, a First Team All-State selection in his senior year at LaGrange High School, enjoyed a successful prep career. During his final season at LaGrange, Mitchell averaged 24 points and 13 rebounds.

A top prep baseball player, Mitchell was taken in the fourth round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Colorado Rockies and played three years in the minor leagues before a shoulder injury ended his baseball career.
Zach plays basketball like I used to play soccer... Great in practice when the pressure was off but when you get going full speed in game mode it's different and mistakes happen.
Nah...Zach was just a freshman last year. Being a freshman PG is a totally different experience especially when you are trying to follow the example set by Golden. Zach will be fine in his own way...he has actually put on a lot of muscle lately and should be a solid player next year for the Owls.
Mitchell is a HUGE get for the Owls. He had offers from Oklahoma State and Wisconsin before signing with Texas Tech. He will be a great person to come in right after Stegall and Wooten graduate. Huge get for Ingle.
big pickup...litterally. thats a big man. not next year..but the year after we have an excellent chance of winning the conference.

i cant wait to hear who we got coming in this year.

and the thing about zach is...he's got talent to be a good player...but he has this fear of messing up..so he plays conservative. he's had oppurtunitys to take it to the basket or take an open shot and he wouldnt do it. though at the end of the year he started playing better. he's got the talent and a great shot to be a good player..he just has to believe it.
It is always tough to win a conference. We will be losing a lot (Stegall, Wooten) when Mitchell is ready to play, but it definitely will give us a good piece to continue competing in the conference. The amazing thing about Kennesaw, is that we have gone .500 in our first two years as Division I league members. We have done so facing the stiffest NCAA imposed grace period to date (4 years), and our team is still very young.

The future is bright at Kennesaw. It is fun following a team that you know will come out and compete on a nightly basis. Hopefully next season some of those bad breaks will turn into good breaks and we can put together a winning season.
i'm not worried about losing wooten and stegal. as great as they are..nickerson and whipple are going to be better. Whipple has so much upside its scary...and at the end of the year he started playing to that potential. he could breakout as early as next year and as late as his junior year. Nickerson will be our best player as early as next year. He is so gifted and is blessed with the ability to score with both hands. he's got an excellent post game and its only getting better..he was still shaking off all that rust from not playing basketball for 3 years and he still was great. If u guys were at the uga game..Nickerson was frustrating the hell out of Takais Brown with his up and unders and his ability to do hook shots on both sides of the paint. plus he can shoot and he can spread out the defense.
We should be worried about losing Wooten and Stegall. They are two senior captains this coming year, and are arguably two of the most talented players in the entire ASun...both are limited somewhat defensively but you dont come along a Ronell Wooten all that often, and Shuan can be unstoppable sometimes. This should be a fun year to watch at KSU.
As much as I hate to admit it, Wooten and Stegall are fantasitc players. It sometimes seemed to me that Stegall could player even better than he does--almost like he had mental lapses. In my opinion, he was one of the best post players in league. As far as Wooten, he is one of the best leapers IN THE COUNTRY. He had a dunk at our place that was absolutely unreal. If he was a couple inches taller and 20-30lbs bigger, he would be a monster.
I also really liked Nickerson last year. Nice all around game.
One more thing, what happened to Morgan this year? It seemed like he absolutely wore it out his freshman year, but this past year he didn't impress me as much. Sophomore slump?
Good luck with your recruiting.
Morgan played the "4" for Kennesaw his freshman year due to our large deficit in talent. There wasnt a PF in the league that could keep up with him off the dribble which led to a lot of easy baskets for him. As a sophomore he had to adjust to playing guard again and he had a lot of trouble.
Andre struggled last year a little bit, but he'll bounce back. like u said he was playing forward his first year and he moved back to guard. wont be surprised to see keyonte keith take his spot next year. next year, will be a better year..we sorta underachieved this season..but at the same time we didnt. we played very well, we just had problems closing out games from teams ranging from mercer and stetson 2. Wichita State and UGA. Now that the year with 7 freshman and Stegal shaking off the rust is over..we should improve a lot and close out more games. Our size disadvantage is fading away fast and there is only one other team in the league(ETSU) who is just as athletic as us. I expect us to finish third in the conference.

the funny thing is about the uga game...according to my friend who writes for the Red and Black at UGA...he heard that for the entire week Felton was warning his players about Kennesaw and the players just shrugged it off. I think the game should happen again..it was fun..got to a cheering match with Striped Crew and the UGA student section.

but most likely uga wont schedule us...u think we can maybe get tech 2? if not then maybe Southern.
I doubt at this point that Georgie would schedule Kennesaw again. Georgia Southern might schedule us, and they would be a very tough game, but that wouldnt get the same sort of recognition as Georgia. It is going to take a bit to change the culture of the state of Georgia to recognize Kennesaw as a true Division I athletic program....one way to fast track that would be to take down a Georgia or Georgia Tech. The odds of that happening are slim to about zero...but who knows, miracles do happen.

I think Keonte has a lot of talent as well, and he contributed a lot to the team this year coming off the bench (I think he started early in the year, but by conference play he was the 6th man). He is a big strong guard, and I think if he has the right work ethic he will be a tough person to stop from the wing.
The potential to be a lot better than last year is 100x better than where we were sitting a year ago.
