I am now reading the etsubucs.com site and I am reading how this will likely go down as "The Most Successful Season in the History of ETSU Athletics."

Hmmmm.

Mullins continues by saying this is "winning the right way."

Okay.

I see.

So winning the right way is dropping down to the Junior Varsity and playing Nelson Muntz against teams just up from Division II.

Interesting. Very interesting.

Let's tell it like it is. This has been one of the WORST seasons in ETSU history since they joined the NCAA.

It wasn't bad enough that this is the second year of playing in the worst conference, strength-wise, ETSU has ever been in- but as the conference figures to get worse with the trade of Gardner-Webb for USC Upstate and Florida Gulf Coast- ETSU figures to resign itself to this level of play for another 10 years.

Winning the right way means having a full athletic slate- including football. Winning the right way means striving to increase the level of competition, not decrease it.

Winning the right way means not laying an egg when you're playing at home with a chance to make the NCAA Tournament. Winning the right way means you don't fill your rosters with overseas ringers.

Winning the right way means you don't have a writer contact out of town newspapers for jobs- and then stab him in the back by giving credentials to another writer.

Winning the right way means having an SID that respects the rights of journalists, instead of lying to their faces to play flak for master.

Winning the right way means taking on legitimate opponents.
Unfortunately the winning percentage disagrees. They are considered division one schools (whether we agree with it or not). When it's said and done a whole lot of championship banners got ordered, and the ones that didn't finished in the top half of the conference. (sad considering soccer had ANOTHER LOSING RECORD!)
Like her or not, Devine did what she needed to do to A: keep her job and B: show those girls that yes, it's okay to win.
Warren, Yaser and Brooks went up against pretty good competition all year out of conference, and as of right now, the basketball team might need to schedule teams from the newly formed Clinch Mountain District in Virginia so they can compete. How many players have they signed now?
I think both of you have it wrong. What they meant to say was that this was the best year in ETSU p.r. history.
The winning percentage is meaningless.

Though this is an extreme analogy, if VMI dropped to non-scholarship football and posted winning records, it wouldn't mean the program had improved.

This "the golf/tennis/basketball" team played national competition is true only to a certain point. The basketball team played three NCAA teams- Belmont, Tennessee, and Vanderbilt, but I'm not sure that means they were playing one of the toughest skeds in the country.

Take golf. Had Warren concentrated or even looked at in-state players, ETSU beats Tennessee to win the Bank of Tennessee Tournament.

They are feeding off a lesser conference and a tennis win against No. 35 MTSU or whatever it is doesn't change that.

Again, ETSU needs to change their logo from this-
