I wanted to discuss the coverage of the ETSU game by the TV outlets-

Saw both TV 11 o'clock sportscasts.

Props to WJHL for THE shot that defined the game. I generally think the local sportscasts are enamored with shooting from the sideline when they should be shooting from a bit higher up so you can see the action better- but the cameraman at WJHL perfectly captured Justin Hare's game-defining three-pointer at the first half buzzer with an "in your face" angle underneath the bucket- and then CAPTURING HIS IMMEDIATE JOG TO THE LOCKER ROOM.

Belmont did not gloat with the 19-point lead. Aside from being patted on the tush and a few smiles Belmont did not act as if they had the game won- even with a 19-point lead.

They turned around and immediately went to the locker room like a team intent on winning the game.

WJHL captured that. Kudos.

What I didn't like is there wasn't enough time, in my opinion, on this game.

The Bristol races might be as big as it gets in the Tri-Cities, but as far as Johnson City goes there is nothing bigger than ETSU playing for an NCAA Tournament berth at home.

I think a game of this magnitude deserves to lead the entire newscast. That's my opinion.

This is as big as it gets in terms of games that are played in Johnson City.

So it disapoints me that it's given two minutes and then an immediate segway to the Vols game- and then high school.

I'd like to see a bit more analysis. A commentary. A "Buccaneers Extra."

Save the "Bristol Dragstrip is now open" story until Sunday. Cut into the Vols- this is a meaningless game and besides- you do have Science Hill playing in a title game of some sort and if you don't cover it- nobody else will.

I am a little hesitant to say "cut into the high school coverage," but I wonder about three interviews with Gate City girls basketball players on this day.

There will be plenty of time this week to highlight the Gate City girls achievements throughout the week and to get the interviews on.

Unless, of course, the TV outlets' minimal coverage of the game is a comment on the way ETSU treats the media.

In that case, I say more power to them.

As for ESPN- a superior broadcast. They found a way to keep fans interested in the blowout with their interview of Vince Gill, and furthermore it was refreshing not having to see the likes of Mullins being interviewed and spreading propaganda when there are five Buccaneer legends in the house.

Also enjoyed ESPN2's shots of Johnson City- the mountain range- the "Johnson City" historical marker at Fountain Square.

We need to find a way for the nation to see those things more often.
