2007 A-Sun Tournament - 1st Round
March 1, 2007

#1 [Image: ETSU.GIF] vs. #8 [Image: Stetson.GIF]

Season series: ETSU 2-0
Team Records: East Tennessee State (22-8, 16-2), Stetson (11-19, 6-12)
Game Time: 7:00 P.M. on CSS Television

The Facts: ETSU only lost conference games to Belmont and Jacksonville by a combined total of 9 points. If ETSU is to be upset, expect a buzzer beater.

#2 [Image: Belmont.GIF] vs. #7 [Image: Gardner_Webb.GIF]

Season Series: Belmont 2-0
Team Records: Belmont (20-9, 14-4), Gardner Webb (9-20, 7-11)
Game Time: 1:00 P.M.

The Facts: Gardner Webb upset ETSU last year in the tournament. Belmont is extremely well coached. This should be a great game and will be tough, but not impossible for G-Webb.

----------------------------------

#3 [Image: Jacksonville.GIF] vs. #6 [Image: Campbell.GIF]

Season Series: Split 1-1
Team Records: Jacksonville (15-13, 11-7), Campbell (13-16, 7-11)
Game Time: 3:15 P.M.

The Facts: JU has won 12 games at home, and only 3 on the road. All 3 on the road (UNF, Mercer, & G-Webb) were by 5 points or less. Jacksonville will miss their home gym, but they are hot right now. Campbell has had a less-than-expected season after many board members tabbed them 3rd pre-season. Campbell will need to break 80 to win this one, which isn't out of the question.

----------------------------------

#4 [Image: Lipscomb.GIF] vs. #5 [Image: Mercer.GIF]

Season Series: Lipscomb 2-0
Team Records: Lipscomb (18-11, 12-6), Mercer (13-16, 8-10)
Game Time: 9:15 P.M. on CSS Television

The Facts: Lipscomb's defense is fantastic. They have also handled Mercer in the recent games. Mercer has not won an A-Sun tourney game since the 2002-2003 season. Mercer lost to Lipscomb in the opening round last year in a blowout. This year will be a much closer game.

----------------------------------

An Honorable Mention for Kennesaw State who would have earned the 5th seed in the tournament had they been eligible.

How many upsets do you guys think we'll see? I wouldn't be surprised if it was 0, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was as high as 2.
The dummies on CSS were just saying at the end of the GWU-Campbell broadcast that GWU had to play Belmont in the first round. How is it that GWU is the six seed?
Nevermind, I see you just made the edit.

Yeah I typed it up earlier just for fun. I never noticed that G-Webb might move seeds. Every game except ETSU/Stetson was altered by the final day of the regular season.
Thanks for putting that together Mercer Fan. Looks fantastic.

I think we will see some upsets: Mercer and GWU will advance to the second round.
Thanks bucfaithful. ETSU will cruise in that 1st round matchup.
Campbell over JU. Jacksonville plays terrible outside of....well Jacksonville.
CU and JU haven't had much tournament success. Each only has one tournament win since joining the TAAC/A-Sun.
My upset pick will be Mercer over Lipscomb. Lipscomb is not playing that well right now.
I never noticed until I saw the official bracket. but only 2 members of the A-Sun have won the tourney before (Belmont last year, and Mercer all the way back in 85 and 81) So yea you could say a few members have left the conference.
GWU over Belmont?! You've got to be kidding me. I'm seeing Mercer over LipSCUM and Campbell over Jacksonville.
Less than 24 hours til game 1! Any fans of the early games going to buy the internet streams on atlanticsun.org?
March 1

Belmont vs Gardner-Webb
Jacksonville vs Campbell
ETSU vs Stetson
Lipscomb vs Mercer

Here is my selection for tonight. Although I do have my bracket done up to the championship.
Belmont up on GW 37-28 early 2nd half. Can't watch at work else I would have considered the 5 bucks to watch.
Belmont is going to win this tournament. I know ETSU has been rolling, but Belmont has at least as much if not significantly more talent than anybody else and it just seems like they have the most firepower.

Both of the games in season between ETSU and Belmont went to overtime, and I expect much of the same in the third go-round on Saturday.
Well Florence may have got Freshman of the Year, but J-Rod put on the show at the Tournament
History tends to repeat itself -- like I've said the last 4 years, Slonaker cannot coach the big games. He's been embarrassed in the last 5 conference tournaments straight.
