has the Bucs in the play-in game against the Bill Russell led Dons. Winthrop is an 11, Davidson is a 12. FWIW, Tennessee and Va Tech will be playing a first round game at Viking Hall.

They have San Francisco representing the WCC and not Gonzaga?? I know the Zags are somewhat down this year but San Francisco has a losing record so far this season. I'm not sure I would put too much creditability into this bracket.
They also have a SWAC team, which is always one of the bottom 2 leagues, as a 15 seed. If the Bucs are in the play-in game, I will buy everyone on this board lunch.
These projections go by current standings and on that day USF was in first in that conference despite a 7-11 overall. With a loss they are now 7-12. I agree that Gonzaga is probably the odds on favorite for that conference, despite losing to St. Marys. USF lost to SMC in their last outing.

Not saying that these projections are perfect, just giving what was out there. I do think that Winthrop is a team that you would not want to face inthe first round.

By RPI, JAckson State is about 20 spots ahead of ETSU right now. All of the other 16 seeds have higher RPI. If ETSU gets in, the play-in is a possibility, not a probability, due to upsets in other low-major conf. tourneys.

However, who has ETSU beaten that would warrant a higher seeding. Their seeding is not going to be based off of who they have beaten, but who loses in other tournaments. Although, winning 10-12 more games would help and possibly land a sure 15, possibly a 14. JMHO.

There is still a long way to go though.
Nuck- Let's say you're right, because I'm wondering where they get San Francisco instead of Gonzaga myself.

Gonzaga is obviously not getting a ticket to Dayton, so then it would appear the A-Sun tournament winner would get the LAST seed.

Don't believe me? Let me ask you this question. What do the

Ivy

Ohio Valley

Southland

Patriot

and MAAC have in common.

Answer- they all have more teams with winning records than the A-Sun.

So their tournament reps will likely have better seeds than the A-Sun's will.

I might believe the America East Conference is worse than the A-Sun, but their likely representative- Vermont- has already beaten ACC leader Boston College. That will give them a seed higher than 16.

I might believe the MEAC is worse than the A-Sun. However, their top dog- Delaware State- is 6-0 in the conference and possess a win against Buffalo- a respectable Mid-American Conference team.

I do believe, by the way, that the A-Sun is better than the SWAC and Texas Southern is not as good as ETSU.

However, if SWAC 2nd place team Jackson State were to win that conference tournament, then they have wins against Rutgers and UTEP- and that's going to put them above ETSU should the Bucs win the A-Sun tourney.

Folks, if the Bucs win the A-Sun tournament, it is a likelihood they will get that ticket to Dayton UNLESS some other conferences have upsets in their tournaments.

I found these rankings interesting, especially where we were at as compared to other members of the conference, as well as the Southern. It furthers the belief that basketball is a strange sport thank goodness for the NCAA tournament.

And you say you're no longer working in the media with that little gem?

I'd think you'd have to beat the editors away with a stick!
