Full Version: I see the Johnson City Press has ignored last night's game

Or at least their online edition did.

A little history here. Back in 2003 the Bucs played UNC-G on NATIONAL- not regional- TV and the Bristol Herald-Courier did not send a writer out.

Their sports editor literally came on the boards and pleaded with us that he was short on staff- that he had to have King College covered- etc.

Basically, we didn't buy it, and the end result was that I do know now the H-C has a LOT of stringers available- and good ones, too (Alan LaMountain, for instance).

Regardless, I don't know whether to say the Press is a fish wrap because they thought two high school games were more worthy to put on their website today (and though I know the game went into overtime- come on- you had more than two hours!)

OR

Applaud them because the way things have been going at ETSU, the less coverage they get, the better.

Incidentily, this isn't really a surprise, but tricitiessports.com had the game third as well, under a couple of high school games.
I noticed that as well Pitt. I got to work this morning and got online to read the Johnson Press to see what they had to say about the bucs. So I found nothing on the Bucs online from JC press. So at lunch I went and purchased a paper and found an article on the game. Pretty much the same story on ETSU's news in sports. I can't believe that they didn't have anything online about the game.
Again, I don't know whether to applaud them or not.

From working in the industry, I am going to guess when the game went into overtime and realizing a midnight deadline (and trust me, if you're on the sports desk you want to be done well ahead of midnight) they just put the first two local stories they received online.

And who knows? Maybe the writer had computer trouble or something.

If this was an editorial decision where they finally said "I know they are the big league team in town, but I simply can't let them get away with what they are giving, so ETSU gets less coverage" I would applaud them.

And to a certain extent, I think that's what they are doing. There isn't one beat guy on ETSU- like Trey is with Tennessee.

Now, I can't figure out if that's because they have two- Avento and Hodge- because ETSU is so important- or that there isn't one solid beat guy because ETSU doesn't warrant it in their minds.

What I would LIKE to see, honestly, is that they feel ETSU is important enough for two beat guys but they showed more criticism.

The fact there's more nitty-gritty on these boards than in the paper is just not right.
