I came away from the meeting feeling, sadly, like this wasn't going to happen.

It wasn't that people didn't want football, or that only a handful of students showed up.

That's to be expected. You hold a forum like this and there will be only 20 die-hard students with a vested interest- their father played football at ETSU; their brother plays football at UT-Martin, etc. attend.

What I had a problem with is how few answers anyone seemed to have or know.

For instance- where the team will play. How they will fund a stadium. If bringing back football will allow the team to be in compliance with Title IX.

There are two meetings left and people don't have answers to these questions.

Give you an example. In another post VolLover was trying to be all condescending to me and said that Dr. Phil Roe was pushing for renovations to Memorial Stadium so ETSU could play there.

So I asked Roe if Memorial Stadium would be renovated in compliance with NCAA standards.

Turns out he doesn't know what those standards are!

You just can't make this stuff up!

What I saw was a bunch of people saying that "We want a team with Tennessee players! You don't have to go recruit out of state! We have good athletes here!"

Well, in 2003 half the team was made up of Tennessee players. You go with 100% Tennessee players you'll go 1-10 every year.

The big thing about this meeting is David Mullins and Paul Stanton were not there. That doesn't speak well.

I'm not sure this is a Dog and Pony show so David Mullins can concentrate his funding on the sports nobody cares about- despite Dr. Bishop's praise of a so-called "Championship" volleyball team that had "a group of female students for the first time ever packing a lunch and going on the road to watch them play."

I hope I'm wrong. But it just seems as if nobody has any answers!
