Full Version: Homecoming boycott

It looks like most of the frats are boycotting homecoming. I have heard from a few people that homecoming is pointless without football and it is a waste of time. I think this will definitley get the attention of the administration. There is an article about it in the East Tennesseean. Interesting indeed, although the boycott mentions nothing about football. But if we had football I guarantee there would be no boycott.
But don't they apple butter!! Of course some would say that there are those on campus who don't know S@#t from it. The frats are mad because they can't drink their wine coolers and act like complete horses asses. Oh darn...
Seriously though, football would def. help.
Just got home from homecoming. The Buc Football and Friends group had a tent set up; got a nice toy football with their URL on it, and got to say hey to Doc. There was also a reunion for football players, and a meeting/presentation in the Rogers-Stout auditorium on the state of football reinstatement.

The frats were sore because they got in trouble and got called on it; two of them got in an altercation with each other earlier this semester and were banned from participating in homecoming, so calling it a boycott was a way to save face, I guess.
The thought occurs-

Go back a few pages and you'll see where I suggested a one-game boycott of an ETSU men's basketball game to show the administration our displeasure.

You know what I got?

"OH! You'll hurt the players' feelings!"

I can't make stuff like this up. And I'm pretty damned imaginative!

Now, I see where people were boycotting homecoming.

Wouldn't that hurt the homecoming committee's feelings?

You want to see this thing happen, you want to see football's revival, it's not going to come with Phil Roe's public memories of ETSU's lone win over a Division I-A team years ago and saying the program will be funded by scheduling such games in the future.

If I recall- they did that in 1995 with two Division I-AA games- and a good team got into an 0-5 hole and finished 4-7 because of it, and in '98 the momentum of the previous two years was totally eliminated- and with it the movement to kill football started.

This is not a "top man," Kim.

But we are. If ETSU fans, who have had to endure and rise above every indignity a fan can possibly face and still hold their heads high, aren't "top men" due to their intestinal fortitude, I don't know who is a "Top man."

SO I ONCE AGAIN PUT THE CALL OUT-

Dec. 9- the next home game against Milligan.

Dec. 19 will be too late- it's only a day before the committee comes up with its recommendation.

I am putting the call out NOW to boycott the game against Milligan. Do not go to the game. Do not buy the game's internet stream.

Stand outside the Vault of Vomit and burn your tickets a la a New York Giants fan circa 1978!

Can you imagine if there were more MILLIGAN fans in the house? Do you NOT think that would send a message to Paul Stanton- "GEE- I gotta make some changes here! Dave, can I see you in my office?"

Build it up on this board. Build it up in the newspapers. Build it up by calling into Bill Meade's show, and Scott Gray's as well.

You do that- the message is sent.

We want football back.

We want Mullins out.

What we are getting now is NOT acceptable.

And you know, I happen to think the players will get over playing in front of an empty house (heck- they play at JACKSONVILLE) for a game if it means by the end of their collegiate career they won't be playing on a team going down the toilet anymore.
A thought from an interested observer:

When GT fans are upset about what's going on, they become very clear about their unhappiness through their checkbook. Nothing gets the GT Athletic Association's attention like their cash flow from fans/alumni taking a massive hit.
Swagger that's happening. Mullins is just too damn stupid to see that Pirate Club donations are virtually non-existent.
Yet somehow GT never ponied up the money to pressure Gailey to bench Reggie Ball. Or is the future star of Tech so bad that he makes Ball look good?

Tech has one of the best receivers in the country yet you'd never know with such an inept quarterback. Truly amazing lmfao
It resonated in the state of Georgia this year. UGA had three guys that were abysmal.

There were thoughts that this year GT had begun to break through... finally winning more than 7 games. Upon further review, GT seems to have stayed the same and everybody around them got worse.

Reggie's legacy is indeed a bleak one, but GT fans are content now knowing:
- Chan Gailey is no longer calling the plays (started this year)
- Two blue chip recruits at QB come in next year, as well as a 3 year backup with experience, a RS-So and a RS-Fr. If no QB can be found in the next 2 seasons, somebody should be stoned.
Chan Gailey isn't calling the plays anymore?

I believe he called the plays over Ron Erhardt- who was on his way out- for the Steelers in Super Bowl XXX.

You see what the result was.
