I just had a question regarding seeding for the ASUN tourney. It looks like the race for top seeds will come down to the wire. If several teams are tied, what's the process for determining seeding? Do they look at overall record next, head-to-head games, or what?

Thanks.

Will KSU and UNF be allowed to participate in the A-Sun tourney, eventhough they are not eligible for the NCAAs?

The bracket only notes that they are ineligible for the championship.

It's my understanding they will not be able to play in the conference tourney and maybe for another couple years. If I am not mistaken Lipscomb, Belmont and GW couldn't play initially when they first came into the conference.
So does that mean that practically everyone will be qualifying for the ASUN tourny? (even Jacksonville)?

If UNF and KSU can't play, then that means everyone but one will make it? Am I doing the math right here?
Only the top eight eligible will qualify for the tourney in Johnson City.. Kennesaw and UNF are not eligible, leaving nine competing for the eight spots.

JU is 3 1/2 games behind Stetson and Mercer for the eighth spot, (with seven to play) so I'd assume at this point that the eight are pretty much set.

Lipscomb
ETSU
Belmont
FAU
G-WU
Campbell (good to see the Camels doing so well)
Mercer
Stetson
KSU and UNF will not be ellgible for the tourny until 2009. IF FGCU (or any other school jumping into D-1) comes into the league, the tourny will be set for the three seasons. All teams must be D-1 for 4 years before being elligible for post season play. GWU and Lipscomb were not elligible for the A-Sun tourny for their first year in the league but Belmont was.
I believe that (and correct me if I'm wrong) Belmont was a D-I Independent for a few years before joining the TAAC/ASun. This is why they were eligible for the postseason tourney right away.

Other schools that have joined recently (G-WU, Lipscomb, UNF, Kennesaw) were either brand spanking new to D-I when entering the conference or hadn't fulfilled their probationary period at the D-I level prior to joining, thus they were/are not eligible for the tourney and auto bid to the Big Dance.

BB, you are right in saying that the tourney will be set once FAU leaves for the Sun Belt, unless a current D-I member moves over to the ASun (Radford, Winthrop, Birmingham Southern, etc..., among the possibilities).

I think the rumor is that we are going back to a 12-team league, though. So there might still be a chance to bring in another D1 and still have 9 eligible.
There is also a GOOD chance that we add one more D-II too. BSC or Winthrop would help the league more than anyone else. Even if we add Longwood, they are still about 2 years away from being eligible for the post season.
the tournament should include every team in the league. There is no reason to cap it off at eight teams
I think once we're a 12 team league and everyone is eligible, it will be a 12 team tournament. But like next year for instance, if there are only 9 eligible teams, all nine should go, with the number one seed getting a first round bye.
I really hope we go to divisional play, it'll cut costs for EVERYBODY, and allow us all more OOC games.
We can get UT-C and App on the schedule, and with any luck at all, they'll schedule Western Carolina for us, too. That would put a vast majority of our games within legit driving distance.
More OOC games would be great. Mercer has still yet to be able to schedule a single OOC home game that even resembles a D1 school. So hopefully that could be corrected somehow too. Shouldn't a brand new arena help us a little in that department?
All the tie-breaker stuff is in the tournament info on atlanticsun.org.

ETSU fans shouldn't expect a lot of fans on the first day of the tournament, especially the afternoon session. Gotta remember the distance between schools and that seven of the nine eligible schools are small privates. I remember several years ago the tournament was in Jacksonville and an afternoon game featured Centenary (La.) and somebody, and there were 3 Gent fans there! On the other hand, Johnson City is an easy drive from Belmont, Lipscomb, G-W, and Campbell so it might be allright. I'm sure ETSU will play Thursday at 7:00 p.m., regardless of their seed.

What do you all think about the Big South's tournament format with all the games at the higher seed's home court? Would that work in the A-Sun? Would we want it?

Wasn't GWU not permitted becuase of past NCAA violations?
