Alright, back to basketball, any thoughts on getting back on track after the debacle Saturday? Mercer actually helped us by beating Kennesaw Saturday, so now what.
Actually, had FAU won their game with Lipscomb, we wouldn't have lost any ground. Who knows, a little re-focusing might have been what they needed. Better it come now than the last weekend of the year.
Exactly. We are in about the same shape we were before the game on Sat. Maybe this was a good wakeup call. After KSU I was afraid they would overlook the next 4 games. Guess they won't now.
It's a very good wake-up call.

ETSU is nothing more than Nelson Muntz.

Millhouse got in a lucky punch and ETSU went down like a brick.

This isn't a very good team and they aren't in a good conference. For us to support this is counterproductive to the changes that need to be made to be a good program.
We missed a good opportnity to move up in the standings, but fortunately we didn't lose any ground.

This was definitely a good wake-up call. We looked lifeless for most of the game.

I expect and hope that they play with avengeance tonight.
I agree, we had some good momentum building and if we could have kept up that type of point spread through the tournament we may have been able to avoid the play in game or a 16 seed. We need to Win out and Win Big. We must stay focused. It is obvious that we are not good enough just to show up and win. I think we need to beat Mercer by 20.

Is it possible that a auto-bid gets placed in the play-in game?
Yeah, thats the whole point of the playin game. NCAA states you have to have 34 at large and 31 autobids. Then it goes to RPI after the autobids and the regional teams (ex. Georgia Tech can't play in Atlanta) which places the teams where they fall.

More on the bracket stuff at ESPN along with their very well done "Bracketology"

I'm not quite sure what the above post is talking about they have a chance to avoid a 16 seed or a play in game???? This might just be a case of ETSU fans not giving our league much credit, but I can't recall lately any A-sun team getting a 16 seed in the last few years. our conference rpi isn't that bad. And there is no way that our conference will ever play in the play-in game unless a sub-.500 team pulls some upsets and wins the conf tourney. our conf is a lot stronger than the MEAC and Big South for instance, that regularly play in the game(except when Winthrop is really good). This poster also might have meant if they kept routing teams, but lost in the tourney, that they would get an at-large bid. unfortunately, our league also will never get 2 teams in, unless maybe a team is undefeated and only has one loss in the conf tourney. but then again ETSU fans, even the Southern conf is a very very long shot to ever get 2 teams in too.
mubear,
A sports prognosticators (I can't remember which one) on the national level forecasted the A-Sun in the play-in game. That is what started the current worry.

As of this past Sunday the ASun RPI was 30 of 31 (30 of 32 if you count independents). MEAC was 29, Big South was 23.
The conference doesn't help itself when they continue to bring in DII schools. By the looks of things to come the A-Sun will continue to do so in the near future. The A-Sun will wind up being a JV caliber conference.
I appreciate you correcting me. i know in the past we have been between the 20-24th conf in rpi. leaving room for us to get 15 seeds. i can't believe the MEAC would be ahead of us. when you look around our ocnference the teams are good, especially at the top. the league is very balanced with anyone having a chance to win on a given night. i wonder if this hurts our rpi? also i've heard rumors and i don't know what is true at all, so I am hunting to be corrected again. But do KSU and UNF count as D-II games this year in the rpi?? i heard we couldn't play fort valley this year, b/c they are a d-2 school and the conf only allows you to play against a certain amount of d-2s. but since we have ksu and unf we exceeded the limit. is this true? and are they the reason our conf rpi is so low. any information to set me strait would be appreciated.
I can't really help with details about how RPI is calculated.

But for what it is worth UNF has an RPI (dead last at #334), and Kennesaw State is 187. My assumption (and maybe an incorrect one) is that the RPI counts, but I am uncertain of the status of a win against either counting as a D1 win.

Jacksonville's RPI of 332 (a bridesmaid to dead last) doesn't help the A-Sun either.

BTW Longwood (on this board a rumored future A-Sunner) is in the hunt with a 316 RPI.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.
I really hope it's not Longwood as a choice...
Word is it is NOT A SCHOOL FROM VIRGINIA, eliminating Longwood and Radford. I will stick to my theory on UNC-Asheville... They're garbage in their current league, and by moving to what they think is a lesser league would in their minds allow them to build up.... Plus, three natural rivals right off the bat with ETSU, G-Webb and Campbell would make life really easy.

So, you've heard this? From a reliable source? Anymore details?

UNC Asheville will be fine with me. Anyone heard if USC Upstate might be moving up to D-1?
Most people I take with a grain of salt, but the Radford rumor was squashed by Radford. I trust this person pretty well. When they tell me something, that's usually how it is.
UNC-A would be better than most of those others I have seen. At least for us and the NC schools. As mentioned elsewhere , it would be a nice place to hold the tourney again. Downside is they are not historically an RPI boost.
Kennesaw and UNF are full Division I schools. Our affiliation with Division II has been severed unless during our probationary period the NCAA or our school kick us back down to D-II. That would be monstrous news and we would lose our affiliation with the Atlantic Sun. With that said, it's not going to happen that way. We count in the RPI which one of us raises the conference RPI and one of us lowers the conference RPI. And to be ranked 30th or 31th is rediculous but we know our role I guess. At least Savannah State (2-21) as an Independent is the team that has the least to play for. But the A-sun and MEAC have two teams with worse RPI's than them. *http://www.midmajority.com/rpi.php

We are inelligible for post season play until Fall 2009. Post season play is conference tournaments sanctioned by the NCAA (all of them) and NCAA sanctioned national tournaments (all of them, even the NIT which was 'bought' read: sold-out to the NCAA last year) after the end of the regular season.

That is except for women's soccer and golf i believe. These select sports transitioned to Division I athletics a year ahead of the school and was given a 2 year probationary period instead of 4. Makes no sense but that's what it is. I am under the assumption that those sports who made the transition early (again, womens soccer and golf i believe) may be eligible for post-season play starting Fall 2006.
don't worry, the ASun won't be ranked so low every year. Just have a few exceptionally low RPI's this year (Mercer included).
It's been this way in recent years in basketball... That's why the ETSU fans don't want to be here, that and we've lost our rivalries with App. State, Chattanooga, etc...
I mean on a positive I think we've picked up a new one with Kennesaw, but who knows.
