I grew up near Greenville SC many of my Fall Saturday afternoons were spent at Clemson or Furman games. I remember one time at a Furman game the Paladins had just scored a touchdown and I stood up and yelled to the top of my lungs. That is when my Dad pulled me down and said "son this is Furman game don't yell just clap politely like you were wathcing the Greenville Orchastra."

When I found out that G-W was moving up to Division 1 I, it sparked a renewed interest in the football program. I was especially excited when G-W played Furman for the first time 2 years ago. It was sort of a personal thing that we were actually a Division 1 program. I am still very excited that we are D-1, but when I found out that Presbyterian was playing Elon this year I kind of got a little jealous. Part of me misses the old SAC 8 Conference. To be in the SAC 8 you had to be affiliated with some sort of Christian denomination. Most of the schools were within a 2 hour driving radius from G-W which I also miss. There was a sort of family feel to it, family you feuded with but family still. I also thought it was cool that the whole SAC went into the NCAA from the NAIA together.

G-W just finished pounding the snot out of 2 NAIA teams. I don't mind playing lower division teams especially if everyone gets playing experience, but one of those teams was from Alabama and the other from Kentucky! I wish we would schedule a SAC team once and a while. I'd feel better about paying a sister school like Wingate, or reliving our so called feud with Lenoir Ryne. I gues it would be a scarry thing to play a team from our past. There is not much to gain by beating them and losing to them would be very embarassing. Still I would rather keep G-W money in state.

There is a rumor that Elon Fighting Xtians prevented G-W's full acceptence into the Big South. That really ticked me off, but in hind sight I believe the A-Sun is a much better conference than the Big South, but that still does not mean I am fond of Elon, but I would love to play them. If all that stuff about the Big South is true, then that is the ingrediant for a great rivalry. I wish we played Elon. I would love to see their program disgraced on the football feild or in a bowling alley. I really don't care about G-W moving to the SoCon, but it pisses me off that SoCon folks think that Elon is a better program. That's just bunk. We could'nt do any worse.

I also hear word that PC and Wingate might make the move to D I-AA. Well I for one would love to have you. I would also really like to see Carson-Newman make the jump. I have seen G-W beat Carson-Newman once in football and I would like to see it again before I die.

Should have been there in 1992.

1992 Bulldogs had a very explosive O, and later shaved head coach Woody Fish's head on the 50 @ CN.
The win at CN was great!! Seeing Coach with a shaved head was even better!!(priceless :D )

The SAC was a great conference, would have been nice to see CN move up to 1-AA as well.
I wouldn't rule out the possibility. But it seems like it might still be a couple of years away.
