I usually just read the posts but I have NEVER felt the need to respond until now. You guys are wrong to sit here and say that a certain type of music is the reason why a group of people (whom by your context clues are thought of by you as nothing but "social scum") are poor. That is not true. 60% of the african american population is financially what you would call middle class. ($60,000+ a year) You must not know that this IS just the 2nd generation of afican americans who have gotten adequate education and equal rights so that they can have the things that whites as a whole were able to have all along. Money, clothes, cars, a good education, etc. Most rap music does not glorify the negative things that you say that they do. Most of you have never listened to an entire rap song in your lives. This music was meant to talk about what they witnessed growing up and enlightening others about how they felt about it. If you want to talk about lyrics why don't you look up Jesus WAlks by Kanye West, Hate it or Love by The Game, or Why by Jadakiss. Just like there are other genres of music that glorify satan worshipping and suicide. You probably didnt think to mention that there have been teenagers commit suicide on stage at some heavy metal concerts. And for those what I would consider closet-racist remarks, those are not necessary. You did not have to bring a race of people into the argument making them sound like they were wasted space. Some people like rap, some people dont. Get over it. Leave it alone. These were the most ignorant and middle-school from the 50's sounding bunch of bull**** I have ever read in my entire life. We are smarter than this. We are Tiger fans!!! Sorry for such a long post.
Rock & Roll was once the devil too you know.

Do you actually have anything of substance to add to this forum? Obviously not, at least according to what you've been posting.

Whoa, that was an angry first post TigerFan. The rap music you're listening to must have you in a crazed frenzy. Try some jazz.
just stating the obvious. if a rebel posted some of the things ya'll post, we're considered cross burning racists. have a little repect, especially when you call someone a cross burner.
Right on with this thread. The problem is that most people on this site are white suburban dwelling men. Alot of the outspoken ones are right wing conservatives who watch the news and see only black people being arrested. It is these sheltered people that need to listen to some good hip hop, maybe you will get a clue.
Right On Tigerfan2005!!!

Common Lyrics

Love Is... Lyrics

Yeah, yeah

[Chorus]
How beautiful love can be
On the streets love is hard to see
It's a place I got to be
Loving you is loving me
How beautiful love can be
On the streets love is hard to see
Gotta reach that frequency
Loving you is loving me

[Verse 1]
Yeah, you know what love is
Even found it on the ground where the thugs live
My man had to dig deep to find his
Couldn't sleep 'cause on the real he had five kids
Live nig's, real niggaz express and taste it
At crap games, black dames and big faces
Cases in court, fam' showin' love and support
You and your baby's mom thought that love was a sport
As men we were taught to hold it in
That's why we don't know how 'til we're older men
If love is a place I'ma go again
At least now, now I know to go within
At time it can take ya for a spin
Heartbreak hotel then you're home again
I've seen love make a nigga soul pretend
Like a story that he don't want to end
Yo

[Chorus]

[Verse 2]
It's all love where we come from
In the hood love we was told to run from
That same hood where the guns sung
We holla love, hopin' it would come one
Crack got so many lives undone
From lack of love many hide some run
I knew this girl with a son who dreamt of actin' in plays
Demonstration with her man had her trapped in a maze
Tryin' to find herself again, much of that she'd have gave
Love can free us, to it some of us react as a slave
Funny, we love 'em more when they're relaxed in a grave
Wonder if a thug is raw, is he actin' afraid?
Everybody loves sun, why do I attract shade?
Heard of the love of money, but compassion it pays
Talk about it with my youth so she'd understand
What it is to be loved by a man
Uh

[Chorus]

[Verse 3]
Some say that I'm a dreamer 'cause I talk about it often
Seen the hardest nigga soften wit' his homie in a coffin
We walk and stand in, fall in it
With the right companion we all in it
Mary sang a song about it, having broad limits
In the game of life, it's the scrimage
Reminiscing on letters I wrote in my small days
A letter to the people, love always
Yeah

[Chorus]

Memphis has racial issues. So does Mississippi. Memphis is constantly working to resolve those issues.
I think most of the responses were in regards to gangsta rap. The Will Smith's and the LL Cool J's are o'tay. At least, I though we were talking about the hard-core stuff.

Rock on NWA!!!!! 04-rock

R.I.P. Easy

Chuggin and thuggin baby!!!!
Hey I was one of the few brave souls who went to the Run DMC and Beastie Boys concert in 87. I like rap music when it is done well. When it is nothing but spouting out fbombs and talking trash it is garbage.

lol...

i won tickets on K97 back in 1987 to see Beat Street (i think that was it) at the old theatre on poplar where that Bookstar (?) is now...across from dillard square.

the theatre was 300 people and there were two white guys..me and my buddy. we sat in front of the djs, who cracked jokes about us being the only two white dudes in the theatre..all night... 04-cheers

it was huge fun. we were both K97 junkies and worked hard on our poppin' and breakin'

Everyone has opinions, thanks for sharing yours. People (including you maybe) need to lighten up so as to have a prayer at persuasion, instead of creating instant enemies or eminems or whatever.

I guess thats why we both have so many whites on our basketball teams, we don't want the blacks to play even if they are better   Get real people and quit using the race card when needed.

1. I sure some rap are good, but Gangster Rap is nothing but nasty and deplicts gangters (and ganters wantabes) as hip and cool. When you watch MTV, BET or a movie, do you hear easy listening or Country as thugs music of choice?

2. Your theory about 2nd generation of Blacks who now have access/gotten adequate education does not fly w/ me. Asians are the highest median income race in the US and they put the 1st generation in college (or above).

In reguards to #1. Now why would that be???? Maybe because that type of music does not reflect that type of environment. Put yourself in someone elses shoes. Get real. Of all people I would think that Memphians would understand this. And there is more than just SOME good rap out there, there is alot of good rap out there. Start with De La Soul. You have no idea what your talking about.
