did an outside admin come in to this forum, admonish the people on the "free fsquid" thread, threaten to ban a lot of people and then lock the thread? i don't care for the language used, but don't we have 3 or 4 admins/moderatrs who can make the decision as to what is appropriate?

From that thread:

Quote: Do you guys feel like big men using the language you choose? It really amazes me how brave some people become sitting at a computer. I hope you all realize how ignorant you sound. I dont come around here at all, but if I get another report of this kind of language I will run the bunch of you. It is really sophomoric. Grow up.
Sure looks like that is what happened. What a jackwad.
I laughed my fool head off when I read that. Somebody say "dictator"?

Some jerk no-name mod who doesn't mean a thing on this board coming over here and threatening folks.....what a joke..
So let me get this straight an admin that is not Derby or SCconway came on here and locked a thread???? Per his profile rickheel is a NCAAbbs Admin. NOT a CUSAbbs Admin with fewer posts then even fsquid.

When was the last time a thread has EVER been locked on this board????

I have seen them moved to smack board or somewhere more appropriate but NEVER locked before.

I highly suggest that the admin in question be admonished or shunned. I rarely go outside this message board, and I never use foul language. But the idiotic manner in which this incident is being handled proves to me that some people have TOO much time on there hands. Come on folks get your stuff together.

Also on the issue of Mass banning/punting I have several issues with the comment rickheel made.

Quote:but if I get another report of this kind of language I will run the bunch of you

Ok WHAT LANGUAGEā€¦ I saw no cuss words in that entire thread. I saw words that had been modified but nothing compared to what I have seen on the main boards. I think you need to grow up rickheel.

Ok does your quote above imply that you will run the bunch of us off???? I only ask because your grammar is way off. Try calming down a little, taking some deep breaths before making a rash judgment.

We are a bunch of friendly, warm, nice people rickheel. So please, have a nice day and go about your business elsewhere.

Ok this is from Derby's post in the pinned area above. I think this explains everything..... except where someone can come onto this board and lock something with no warning.

Not quite as sophmoric as locking a thread so you can get the last word in. Perhaps he needs his advice to grow up more than we do?
Ok this is why i never post outside memphistigers.org

I posted in three places an open letter to rickheels. In the Sports Bar, Verbal assualt Lounge, and CUSA board. Here is a link to the CUSA PostMy post in CUSA board has been locked by a admin who said

Quote:Not only the language but the AUP violations. I know if that thing happened on BlazerTalk and I was not around to take care of it. I would appreciate another mod or admin stepping in and correcting the situation. Locking it, then I would decide what to do with it when I got back. What you are doing by calling out Rick is an AUP violation and I am asking you to stop now

Here is the AUP policy per georgia_tech_swagger. Please someone explain what i have done wrong. I all attempted to do is to show my displeasure to CUSAbbs and the NCAAbbs members concerning one of the admins who I think overstepped their bonds and made a unwarranted threat. Instead my thread gets locked down.

Since people can't play nice, here's a much more stringent AUP that will be enforced heavily.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This forum strives to be a place for meaningful, mature and enjoyable discussion of political issues. In order to further these goals, the moderators and administrators have decided to implement the following policy with respect to the moderation of the forum and the type of posting which is appropriate. Note that these rules are in addition to, and do not replace, AUP . The rules will be applied as objectively and impartially as reasonably possible, but are subject to the interpretation and judgement of the moderators and administrators.

(1) Ad hominem attacks, insults and flames are not acceptable. Posts which consist largely or entirely of such comments will be deleted. Otherwise substantive posts which contain some ad hominems or flames will be edited to remove the inappropriate material while retaining the substance of the post.

Calling a fellow poster a liar, deceitful, or a similar accusation, is not acceptable, even if you believe that your fellow poster really is a liar or deceitful. This kind of accusation never furthers the debate. The only acceptable response on P.D. to what appears to be a lie from a fellow poster is to present evidence or argument to contradict what your fellow poster has said.

(2) Hyperbolic or overly emotive language and imagery, such as unwarranted comparisons to Nazi Germany, are generally discouraged, and will be deleted if they appear to serve no purpose other than to inflame the discussion.

(3) Off-topic posting or hijacking of threads is inappropriate. Threads which are off topic in the Political Forum will be moved to a more appropriate forum. Posts in individual threads which have little or no relevance to the topic of that thread will likely be deleted. A person prompted to bring up a side-topic in the course of a discussion should start a new thread, and link to it in the original thread.

(4) Multiple threads on the same or very similar topics serve no purpose. If a thread is started on a subject which is already being discussed in an active thread, the new thread will be closed.

(5) Threads which become overly heated or develop into flame-wars will be closed.

(6) People who refer to arguments or comments made on other threads should include a link to the thread in question as well as a relevant quote from it.

(7) If a person breaches these rules, then in the first instance a moderator will warn the individual as to his or her behavior. Repeated and flagrant violations will result in action by the administrators, which may include the suspension or withdrawal that person's posting privileges
We are working on the situation. Please don't say anything rash that will potentailly make the situation worse.

Mods cannot lock a thread, only admins.

Rickheel is a highly respected admin. What initiated him to take action on board is unclear, so let's just be patient. Let us work on it.

Thanks.
Ok I will not do anything else this afternoon. I hope to see this situation resolved ASAP and fairly.

04-cheers

If these guys were simply geeks it would be tolerable.

But they are geeks imposing value judgments.

It is pointless.

rickheel can kiss my blue & gray you know what!

Edited for content since my real thoughts on the fella were deleted.

A highly respected administrator who made a mistake.

A mistake I predict he will be too smug to admit.

To those techs that manage this board, thanks.

Any way you can manage this board such that a-holes like this guy have no sway?

They say that CAT Rickheel is a BAD! Shut Your Mouth!
On a serious note, stuff like this is why NCAAbbs and CUSAbbs admins should have all mod powers disabled on the MT.org sections. It would prevent misunderstandings from those who barge in thinking they have some sort of jurisdiction of here, and it would prevent posters from feeling like some outside invader is trying to screw with things they have no business screwing with.
I guess that I'm just causing so many problems.

You should know better than to mess with one of the "owners".
C'mon people backoff. I've deleted a few posts in this thread. [sarsasm]Please don't make it any harder on us mods.[/sarcasm]

It would be much better if these situations could be worked out in private so we can concentrate on the bashing of the Rebels.
Guys, I just want to say that rickheel has been a very good guy and I don't personally have a problem with another admin coming here to fix a problem that was reported.

Now it doesn't mean that the way it was handled was appropriate, but based on what I've read (on the mod forum) about what went down, I can fully understand the reasoning for the action he took.

As far as I'm concerned, this issue is a non-issue now.

Steven, I'll be honest with you. I read the thread and Rick's threat left me with a bad taste in my mouth. He comes across like a member of the Gestapo. From the thread itself, it seemed completely out of place. I am sure he is a good guy if you say so but I feel that he owes the board an apology.
