KSU is going for 3 in a row and has won 10 of the last 15 MAC Championships. They have made 8 NCAA Finals in that stretch.
Thanks for the link! Zips up by 10 strokes after the second round! I gotta admit, I had no idea we were good at golf. I believe we were last a couple of years ago. Nice to see that our new indoor golf facility is paying off.
The Zips are having one of their best years, if not the best, ever.
Quote:According to the latest Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Index Ratings (April 30), KSU is the 68th best-team in collegiate golf. MAC foes following Kent State in the rankings are Akron (99), Eastern Michigan (101), Toledo (120), Ball State (164), Ohio (173), Northern Illinois (175), Bowling Green State (194) and Miami (200).

Today's round is very disappointing for Toledo while Ball St has to be happy with where they are. But in collegiate golf, a lot of strokes can change in a hurry. You can see a team move up or down 4-5 strokes within minutes. Happened today at the start of the 2nd round. KSU dropped 6 quick shots to par and then played pretty well the rest of the way to get some of it back while Akron played tough all day.
Single rounds Friday and Saturday. Fun to keep it on the desktop in the background at work at watch it develop.
It looks like EMU is having a great day (-7 so far), along with BSU (-4 so far). Akron continues to lead by 7 strokes but along ways to go.
EMU is having an amazing day. They shot 1 under par after two rounds, then they are 12 under mid way through round three. They have one player Cam that is 5 under through 15 holes. Zips still lead, but our lead has been cut in half (5 strokes).
It's a pity we can't get all the MAC schools to sponsor the same major and minor sports teams for men. We all agree on football, baseball and basketball but after that it's a mess. The problem is in the minor sports which includes track/field, swimming/diving, tennis, golf, wrestling, cross country, soccer and rifle. I did not include hockey because that sport may be in a catagory of it's own, it has it's own league and championship.

For example, not all MAC schools have a golf team. How can we award a MAC trophy in golf when not all MAC schools participate in that sport? The same is true of wrestling. Central Michigan is big in that sport but only a few other MAC schools offer wrestling. How can we talk about being MAC champs in wrestling when nearly half the league does not participate?

Also, I haven't checked all the school web sites but I think all MAC schools offer at least six men's sports - that may be an NCAA requirement for Division 1. But some schools, such as Eastern Michigan and Miami, offer eight while Bowling Green offers seven. We can't even agree on the total number of men's sports we will participate in as a conference.

We are all on the same page when it comes to football, basketball and baseball. I just wish we could all get on the same page when it comes to the so called minor sports as well. Until that happens, a MAC championship in those sports isn't going to mean much in my book.

Is it not being played in Westerville?
It is indeed. One link yesterday at Golfstat showed The Brickyard at Indy. Don't know why.

Looks like things tightened up a bit. KSU made a late surge to pull within 10 and make up at least 1 shot on the Zips; EMU had a dream day of 14-under to pull within 5. 10 shots separating the top 3 teams going into the last round.
Congrats to EMU on winning the MAC men's golf championship! They really came through in the final two rounds to pass the Zips.

Final Standings:
1) EMU (-14)
2) Akron (-11)
3) Kent (-5)
4) BSU (+8)
5) Ohio(+14)
6) BG(+21)
7) Miami(+25)
8) Toledo(+33)
9) NIU(+40)
Wow. I checked in at the turn and Akron was in control still--all 3 teams seem to have really struggled on the back 9 today. Quite a run by EMU!
Congrats, EMU! 04-bow
