whats more stunning, Wolfe in the 3rd, or horvath getting signed at all? I'm happy for him, but I can't believe it.

Sounds like an idea for a poll.

Congrats to Phill the Thrill. 02-13-banana
I've always liked Horvath's acuracy but questioned his arm strength. Phil has good decision-making characteristics and is poised in big game atmospheres.

Good luck Phil. Give em all you got! 04-rock
Excellent article! Sending four players off to the NFL this year should motivate the team to dig in and make it happen with their tough schedule.

It's obviously a big positive to have 4 players from last year get a look in the NFL. But since we have so few Seniors this coming season, it's doubtful it will be any more of a motivation for the current players. But, motivation is hard to measure, so you could be right.
Like him or bash him , PhilH cannot be smeared here any longer as chopped liver by his detractors on this board.

Those who know football at the highest levels would not waste their time and energies with a player showing no potential.

I'm not suggesting a look for Horvath equates to any success even in NFL Europe. However, so very few players beyond a handfull of top QBs ever even get a sniff by the pros every draft and FAgency , so kudos to him....and also - - - - so sad & too bad for all those who ripped on him regularly last season.
wow, Phil is going to have some amazing recievers to throw to....Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams thats awesome, good for Phil, I hope he does well

yea, thatll be cool to say that you threw balls to calvin johnson in an NFL camp, regardless of if he makes the 53 man roster lol
Horvath reminds me of a Kyle Orton in that I could see Phil as the trusty 3rd QB on a squad.

What I mean is, Kyle Orton is the perfect 3rd QB on a roster. He doesn't whine, complain or demand the spotlight. He is conservative and reliable. If called upon, he can run the offense intelligently without putting the team at risk. He plays within himself and does not put the ball on the ground or make crazy pass attempts that result in interceptions. He is a great support to the coaches and starting QB - doesn't mind holding the clipboard, calling in plays, offering perspective from the sideline etc.

I can see Horvath being that kind of a back-up QB in the NFL. I don't see him being a starter anywhere. But I see him playing an important back-up role well for many years if given the opportunity, getting glimpses of playing time and making a nice living for himself.

Interesting take on your idea of a backup QB...

Let me be clear that this is my idea of a 3rd QB. The true back-up (2nd QB) should be much more viable than Orton IMO. I rather like Griese as our #2 guy. Quite a bit more effective and experienced than Orton, obviously. But Orton has his place, indeed.
& speaking of surreal.....

kinda weird to have so many Huskies from one class - probably more than ever before- getting at least oppotunities/invites to make it in NFL - and then think about how this NIU team started and finished the 2006 season.
Is anyone really surprised that the DETROIT LIONS signed Phil Horvath?

I hope he proves me and my constant complaints about him wrong.

Say what you want about Horvath but its extremely hard to argue with his college career production. The numbers are impressive.

Good point. I wish him nothing but the best. No sense in re-hashing old debates about his college performance. I'm happy for him and hope he will make the most of his NFL opportunity. 02-13-banana

The 2003 team had more players getting a NFL look.

Turner and Diem drafted.
PJ & Drew with 49ers
Duffy with Bears
Grant with Titans
Ghilani and Azar also got a look
so he sez with some sarcasm......

so should we have expected one fewer wins in 06 with one fewer pro nibbles from class of 06 compared to 2003?

I punked you all...that's all.

I realize a w/l records and two seasons is much more than one senior class which composed a part of the teams of 03 and 06....
