Scott led the quarterbacks, completing 9-of-16 passes for 86 yards. He rushed eight times for 12 yards, and accounted for the Bobcats' longest play of the game when he cut back on an option play for a 44-yard run. Febus was 9-for-22 for 62 yards, while Jones was 5-for-13 for 15 yards and a touchdown. Miles Schlichter (Greenfield, Ohio) was 0-for-4. None of the four signal callers threw an interception.

"He'll (Scott) be the type of quarterback that's able to scramble and make some big plays on broken and busted plays," Solich said. "He also has the ability to be a good passer. It will be interesting to see how this plays out when Brad (Bower) gets back in the fall. It's going to be a battle to see who takes the quarterback spot over."

The Bobcat Defense looking strong once again.....

Senior middle linebacker Taj Henley (Richmond, Va.) led the defense with 11 tackles, including 3.0 for loss. The new starting linebacker trio of Henley, Michael Brown (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Jordan Meyers (Harrison, Ohio) combined for 19 tackles and 5.5 tackles for loss, including two sacks, and three pass break-ups. The Bobcat defense totaled five sacks in the contest.

"I really like their (the linebackers) ability to run," Solich said. "They're a physical group too. They're going to make some mistakes, but they're young and learning. They'll be interesting to watch this year with their ability to run and make plays sideline to sideline."
Damn, your QB and WR play still sucks. Those four QB's went a combined 23-for-55 (41.8% completion rate). Those 55 passes only netted a total of 163 passing yards (2.96 yards/pass). Ohio will not be a better team than last season with that type of receiving game. As long as it continues to be that bad, teams our going to start stacking the line against McRae next season.

You are reading the stats but......against what type of defense were these quartbacks playing?

Ohio has one of the top defenses in the country. This is why against the first team defense only 3 points were scored........NIU's first team defense gave up 35.

Is NIU's passing game that much better than Ohio's or is Ohio's defense that much better than NIU's defense..........I'm more inclinded to believe the latter based on last season's results.

Oh yeah, i believe that. One of the best defenses? Ohio was playing MAC East competition. Against MAC West competition, Ohio gave up 21 ppg. Against MAC East competition, Ohio gave up 13.2 ppg. Ohio's defensive stats were clearly only better because of the strength of competition. NIU gave up 14.2 ppg against MAC West competition. Come play in the MAC West, we'll see how great your defense is.

Also food for thought, against winning teams (S. Miss, NIU, CMU, WMU, Mizzou, and Rutgers) Ohio gave up 26.2 ppg.

Still 26 ppg against that group is not bad at all........

When your offense averages 20.7 ppg it is bad.
Boy, I wish OU and NIU would have played last year, so that this debate could have been settled on the field...

Oh wait, they did. How did that work out for the Huskies, epasnoopy?

lmfao

Did I miss something or didn't Ohio play the MAC West last year? They went 3-1 against the West which included playing the top 3 teams in the West and the only loss coming in the MACC. Did I mention that only one of those games was played in Athens?

Let's play a little role reversal.

NIU defense vs West: 14.2 ppg
NIU defense vs East: 24.3 ppg

Did I mention that the Huskies played Ohio (an offense you obviously have little respect for) Miami (#5 in the East) and Buffalo (#6 in the East)?

Want to draw any conclusions from those numbers?
Ohio was unbeaten when they scored more than 10 points last year but 0-5 when they did not. The defense played very well.
Defense played well at times. They didn't play well against CMU, that's for sure. They waited too long to show up at Rutgers. They got beaten pretty well at Mizzou. Miami put up more points than they probably should have.
